Cut! 10 Reasons 50 Cent Should Stop Acting

By now, you’ve seen the mortifying photos of 50 Cent that emerged earlier this week. The G-Unit general lost more than 50 pounds for a leading role in the movie, Things Fall Apart, a flick about a football player who is stricken with cancer. He reportedly did it by sticking to liquids and spending up to three hours a day walking on a treadmill.

Good for Fif. He’s clearly taking this acting thing seriously. Unfortunately, these latest photos show us that he might be taking it a little too seriously. As a result, his music is suffering, his brand is hurting and he’s coming dangerously close to becoming a has-been in the hip-hop community. With that in mind, it might be time to put away the Hollywood dreams. Here are ten more reasons 50 should stick to rapping.

1. His best film was a movie based on his life.

And truthfully? That flick wasn’t even that good. Fif’s acting debut, 2005′s Get Rich or Die Tryin’, dropped at the peak of his popularity and only managed to make about $46 million worldwide. Not exactly a blockbuster.

2. Not even Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino could save him.

Remember how good you thought 2008′s Righteous Kill was going to be? Um, yeah, about that. Rather than help his acting career, the thriller featuring DeNiro, Pacino and 50 was a critical and commercial flop. If you want to know when things started to go South for 50, look no further.

3. Eminem couldn’t help, either.

50 once said that he talks to Slim Shady before making any major moves. That can’t possibly be true. We have to believe Em could’ve had any number of roles after the success of 8 Mile. But he wisely turned them down. So, why can’t he convince Curtis to do the same?

4. He is literally “going Hollywood.”

Outside of just shedding pounds for his role in Things Fall Apart, 50 also reportedly got several of his notable tattoos removed for the part, including the large “50″ on his back. It’s like we don’t even know who 50 is anymore!

5. He’s gone from “Straight Outta Southside” to straight-to-DVD.

After hitting the big screens a few times early on in his acting career, 50′s dropped several major duds recently. His latest project, the action flick Caught in the Crossfire, is set to premiere on DVD this summer. Likewise, last year’s Streets of Blood also went straight-to-DVD, despite the fact that Val Kilmer and Sharon Stone were also in the movie. Ouch.

6. All of his roles are starting to look the same.

So, wait: 50 Cent is a cop? A drug dealer? A savvy street dude? You don’t say! Seriously, the only good thing about the creepy photos of Fif is that it actually looks like he’s trying to play a different role for once. Because if we had to see him in one more action film featuring a bunch of cops and a bunch of bad guys…

7. His music is starting to suffer.

Last year’s Before I Self Destruct was a solid album. So, why has it taken 50 more than six months to go out on his “The Invitation Tour” to support it? We have to guess it’s because he’s been using all of his time filming movies. Which is unfortunate considering BISD could have been a way bigger album for him than it was.

8. His label is suffering, too.

Outside of Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks, is anyone even left on G-Unit Records? Naturally, the Unit has cooled off considerably since 50 has taken his hiatus from music. But it’s basically damaged the label beyond repair. Are they developing new acts? Or has all that taken a backseat while 50 develops new scripts? The latter seems more likely.

9. The cheesy kiddie flick is only a couple years away.

Once 50 runs through all of these passion projects (Things Fall Apart is actually based on one of his friends), what’s next? Well, if the R-rated flicks stop working for him altogether, we’re guessing he might make the dreaded leap into Ice Cube territory, where he’ll be teamed up with some teen actors to film a flick about camping or road trips or high school proms. Only problem? Ice Cube’s actually a pretty good actor, so he can pull that off. If Fif does it, we’re done with him.

10. No one ever said they liked 50 Cent as an actor.

We were fine with 50 doing Get Rich or Die Tryin’. It was the natural next step for him. Even Righteous Kill seemed like the right thing to do. But, beyond that? Yeah, we didn’t ask for anything else out of Fif. Seriously, when is the last time you heard someone say, “I loved 50 Cent in (enter movie here)!” Exactly.

Time to hang it up, 50. Let’s make Things Fall Apart your farewell film.

At the end of the day, the only person you need to worry about making happy is yourself. I know he’s got a good following with his music, but if he wants to move more towards acting, let him. He’s obviously made some big sacrifices for his acting career and I don’t think that’s something he’d do if he wasn’t passionate about it.

YOU WANT HIM TO BE BIRDMAN ROCKING JEANS DOWN TO HIS KNEES SPORTING A WIFE BEATER UNTIL HE’S 60?. TRY AGAIN DRJAYS. S*** Y’ALL LUCKY I’M STILL GONNA BUY GEAR FROM YOUR SITE…LOL. PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mistavega says:

There’s no correlation between his failing music career and his acting career. The two are separate entities. 50’s failing music career is a result of being over played and not having any original content.50’s “lackluster” acting career I think is a result of not being in the right movies. I don’t care who you are, if you’re not in the right movie it’s not going to be a hit. The actor can only do so much, if the story line of the movie sucks, then it’s going to suck and fail regardless who is in it. 50 may be realizing that his music career is so far gone, that perhaps it’s time to consider a new plateau and maybe that plateau is the movie industry. If he were to just give up on his acting career and couldn’t fall back on his music career, then wouldn’t him giving up on his acting career in its infancy stages be more of the real bad decision?
I think a lot of your objections are far out and kind of ridiculous but the one I disagree with the most is number 3. How where Al Pacino and Robert Deniro, supposed to help 50? Didn’t Al Pacino and Robert Deniro have the two lead roles? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
If you were going to draw a conclusion off the picture I think it would be that fasting and depriving yourself of proper nutrition is a bad idea. Remember eating right, cardio and weight lifting is always the way to go.

i feel so bad for him because he looks terrible im not tryin to b mean or diss him but you do stuff like this when ur a really really really good actor and that is not him i mean how much money did he make for this? because if ur gonna make such a drastic personal change about u and ur appearence all i know is that ur grandkids better be millionaires if ur gonna do that

  • Gary says:

Wow I never thought I’d see Curtis Jackson like this. His career has been over in my opinion; he made his money and his hits, and now he should go and enjoy his money (Plenty of it). “Get Rich or Die Tryin” which was his moto, seems to be more leaning towards the die tryin part now. I never liked 50 nor G Unit, although some of the songs were catchy. He seems like he’s a really nice guy with a great entrepreneur mind, but he is trying too hard for something that’s definitely not his forte. He should build other people up, and allow others to grow, as well as expand his record label and recruit good rappers; which is what a lot of successful rappers do after they reach a height like fif (Dr. Dre, Birdman, etc.) You know that nobody really wants to hear you anymore, and you definitely don’t make hits like you used to, so let others achieve some fame under your shadow and forget the acting (Leave that to Denzel and Whitaker).

i agree wit da 1st person and Durk u a funny bruda.By da way u herd dat new song 50 got You Should Be Dead By Now banga out here in Brooklyn. And dat album was bonkers. So i dont see his music suffering. He just nows how to reach and grab more fans worlwide and dats jus what he does.

  • Mickey says:

damn that sucks…he used to be sexi as hell……y 50ct y??

  • NySwag says:

First off how old is fif? 35 now? He obviously cant rap forever not everyone can be like Jay-z and lets be real here 50′s music career has been going way downhill for a long while now. At least he’s doing other things.

  • Lewnatix says:

what ppl fail to realize about 50 is that he is doing what he got famous to do “GET RICH OR DIE TRYING”… music was understandably the easiest way to get in the biz.. once he made a name for him self and got a big enough bank account he was bound to move on.. honestly i dont think he planed on rapping for very long anyways… it was just a gate way. if you ask me 50 is a genius.

  • zooyork says:

he looks like he has cancer!

  • The comments are comedy. I doubt he really cares as long as he’s getting checks and adding to that resume.

G unit fell off a loooooong time ago lol. But ask yourself, do we ever know a person, or do we just think we know that persona their portraying?

  • frefg says:

I’ll watch a movie with Ice Cube and 50 Cent in it anyday.

Stop knocking 50 for doing something that makes him happy. Kinda sad watching you guys write this only because u want 50 making music. This is what makes him 50 Cent, he does what he wants. And dropping all the weight then showing the pics to the world shows me 50 is quite comfortable with himself. In this day and age Celebs are doing the wickedest things for press. 50 hasn’t sold out yet. Still moving to the beat of his own drum.

  • ck'd says:

DURK u r so weird, nobody cares if u buy clothes frum this site anyway u lame

  • And his keys are stuck in SAMUEL JACKSON mode.

  • Keith Royal says:

Rap is not an old man’s avenue of success. Most smart rappers (Marky Mark, Latifah, Eve, Ludicris, Snoop, Puff, TI, Ice Tea, Ice Cube, Common, LL, Dre., Mos Def..etc.) know acting is more lucrative and lasting than rap. If 50 wants to act and go the route of so many others who realized rap is short lived success and they grow into good actors/actresses, I wish him the best. Rap has become a springboard into better things and I believe 50 realizes this plus the crap they are putting out now and the artist are a far cry from the originators. God bless 50.

  • DEVONA says:

I have always liked 50.I feel what he’s doin’ right now is his business.Who are we to dictate what he should be doin’ after all it is his life!He may have another goal he’s tryin to reach amongst all the others and 50 i wish i was there to accomplish them with u!He may not b as handsome to me right now but i know he’s motivated and very ambitious. Some qualities some of us could use at anytime now!Oh and the music 50 i need u! Holla!

  • Dominique says:

I was hanging on until I couldn’t take it anymore. Terrible acting, OMG! Even Bruce Willis was terrible. Maybe they partied hard before the production.

  • I am 69 years old and I was searching for this and final i find here. This is just awesome site and article based or true handwork. Thanks for sharing with us.

  • Billy says:

Curtis Jackson cannot act period, he’s about as deep as a shot glass and on top of that, he surrounds himself with highly talented actors that only make his performances appear even crappier. I saw Ryan Phillipe and Bruce Willis act circles around him in a movie in which 50 couldn’t even produce a frown in a scene where his best friend had just been murdered.

  • Efren Cagney says:
