Would You Watch Tom Cruise’s Tropic Thunder Spin-Off?

Since we last touched upon Tom Cruise‘s reprisal of his role (as well as the fat suit and bald head) of Tropic Thunder‘s Les Grossman during this year’s MTV Movie Awards, DrJays.com Live has heard whispers of a possible spin-off including the character in the near future.

The 47-year-old Hollywood megastar, who played the fictional filmmaker in the 2008 comedy movie, wants Les to get his own solo big screen outing. When asked about the possibility of the spin-off actually coming to fruition, Cruise responded: “We’re working on it. Yup, we’re working on it.”

Cruise won mass acclaim for his comedic turn in Tropic Thunder, which also starred Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black and Ben Stiller, who also directed the movie. Check out his incredibly unexpected (but surprisingly entertaining) dance duet with Jennifer Lopez from this past weekend’s MTV Movie Awards. Trust us, you wanna press play.

Who knew Cruise could dance like that!? After that little number, just imagine the possibilities this potential Les Grossman spin-off could have.

TC killed it on this one lol. That character was made for him and is definitely deserving of a spin-off movie. Based on the fans reactions during the MTV Movie Awards, I think a spin-off would be a hit. TC was shaken it just as hard , if not harder, than J Lo. He never even broke character after the dance duet was over.

    Les is more.

    Les get it.

Next to Jerry Maguire this is my favorite Tom Cruise character. Probably his best. That character is whats keepin his career alive lol. Oh LES do it!!!

  • uristocrat says:

of course I would watch it… not in the movies though.. I would wait for the HBO/Netflix version…

  • Tony A. says:

he can have a spin off if he brings the little Asian dude with him

  • Dom says:

I’ve never seen tropic thunder, his dance career should be the next move. And J Lo… looking surprisingly awesome.

The question to ask yourself is not would you watch it, but why wouldn’t you watch it? Over the years the great Tom Cruise has had his share of awesome moments, couch hopping and almost kick Oprah in the face included. now he’s dancing as a fat jewish dude and he’s adding range by not being a complete scientology douche bag. thank you tom cruise for reminding me that it is you with the cock and not katie holmes. even though, she probably has a cock too….

  • betrott says:

definitely lightens up his bezerkscientologistwitchcraft image

  • Austin P says:

This could save tom and the entire scientology image from utter ruin. Oh hold up…. too late.

This character was pretty much the only bright spot of that movie. He killed it, but I’m skeptical about turning something small into something big. Never works for SNL. Would I watch it? Probably. So maybe that’s all that matters. It’s a great character, just not necessarily a great idea, unless they get real creative with the storyline (ie much more so than Tropic Thunder), which I do not expect to happen. As far as Tom Cruise goes, it’s a hell of a lot better than another action hero who can’t even deal with a fattish Philip Seymour Hoffman (Collateral being the lone exception). In conclusion, I vote for Cocktail Part Deux: Brian Flanagan Goes to France. And yes, I had to search IMDB to find his name in that movie.

Annnd they blocked out the “c ock” in “c ocktail”, thus ruining my mediocre to begin with joke

  • Amber Michal says:

although, and probably because, i don’t understand anything i just watched, i thoroughly enjoyed every random minute of it. and i’d probably watch this projected spin-off under the proper circumstances(/influences). i’m wit it.

  • Venus'ViciousVee'Franklin says:

I think they sould make a movie based on Les Grossman. I really think it shows the funny side of Tom

  • Ginevra says:

that was funny hahaha I don’t know about a spinoff though it might be one of those small doses things…
i like tom cruise though so i’d watch it
    i’d probably laugh too.

  • Tatiana says:

I would ABSOLUTELY watch that movie! Tom really surprised me with the Les Grossman character in TT. I remember being shocked that I had NO idea it was him then being hilariously surprised that it was him in all his crazy glory. As the first poster said, Les is made for TC. I didn’t know dude could be so random! Lol

    forsure!!

    Of course, that was hilarious.

  • mattyboy says:

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I’d rather watch tom dance for 6 straight hours than watch the MI series… ya dig?

  • Shelle says:

I don’t believe they should make a spin-off of the character. Les Grossman was a bit part character in Tropic Thunder. The character is alright in small doses and can carry small parts, but to make a 90 minute movie from that characters ranting and ravings is just plain ridiculous. Saturday Night Live tries to do that all the tim from their scripts and it always fails.
I would say, let Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise waste their money on it if they want too. However, it will be a huge waste. If studios won’t even back the sequels for Anchorman and Zoolander (both already established movies) you would think that Ben Stiller would have already learned how things are. However, both Cruise and Stiller aren’t known for stellar choices in picking movies or good movie roles anymore.
