What Is This Mortal Kombat Video About?

If you were a youngster in the 90s and you had any video game savvy, the power move was to hit the local arcade and shell quarters out on rounds of Mortal Kombat. Even if you were worthless with the joystick you still did it because the video game was so popular; you’d feel like a nobody if you weren’t acquainted with Raiden, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Johnny Cage…I could go on. And before any Street Fighter fanboys/fangirls attack the comment section about which game was superior, let’s just get it straight now: regardless of which game was better, Mortal Kombat caused more controversy due to its gory content. Remember those fatalities? You’re probably wincing just remembering the things Scorpion and Sub-Zero did to their enemies after the video game announcer yelled “FINISH HIM!

Mortal Kombat invaded households across the globe, shipping millions of units in cartridge form. Everybody was happy. Well, except for parents. And the Entertainment Software Rating Board [ESRB], which was actually created in part because the game was so bloody that moms and dads everywhere poured out complaints until the video game big wigs listened. Then in 1995, director Paul W. S. Anderson decided to take the wildly successful franchise and flip it into a motion picture, which, whether you liked it or not, is considered one of the best video game to movie adaptations ever. It also raked in over $122 million at the box office, which, 15 years ago, wasn’t too shabby at all.

Eight games, two movies, a TV series and countless action figures later, the once successful franchise is dormant like Snorlax during your typical game of Pokemon (all my Pokemon heads, you understand what I’m talking about.) Until yesterday, when an incredible seven-minute trailer of sorts dropped on the interwebs. We were lucky enough to be one of the first viewers and in all honesty, after you see this, you’ll wonder if it’s a preview for a movie or a new-age trailer for a video game. Just watch, you’ll see what we mean.

This has to be a movie, especially if it got the guy from Trois 3 and Why Did I Get Married in it. HAS to be! For a budget to create this, it has to be amazing. This is the first time I watched a video on youtube and did a celebratory “wooooo!” for when they introduced the characters, especially when describing Baraka.

The last time they did a MK movie, it was incredibly cheesy and horrible. This one has a slight cheesiness too, but more demonic and sinister. I’m just glad Johnny Cage is dead in this one. He’s worthless when you got people like Raiden and Shang Tsung in the arena.

I’m incredibly excited for this one. 90s babies doing it big.

This has to be hot. I think it will be done well the trailer looks really good.

From my understanding they are pitching the movie to and it’s in the process of being reviewed. But theres no better way to push a project forward by sending it viral and having the web go crazy for it. I hope it’s hot though , i can see is being a very good movie. But you cant have Mortal Combat without Lui Kang … Somebody so as soon as they find the new Jet Li or something.. We can start talking Summer 2011 Block Buster.

    Life is Bliss…..

Looks good and gritty i hope they make this movie, looks like a nice restart of the franchise.Always nice to see what modern effects can do for old material. I hope they get the original Shang Tsung actor he was pretty good in that role he’s still around somewhere.

  • Oh dear god, that guy you can’t figure out the name to is michael jai white. Probably one of the most underated martial artists. The stuff he does is nothing short of phenom.
