What’s the attraction humans have to sex? Why’s it such a widely used marketing and advertising tool? We’ve all heard the old adage “Sex sells,” so in this five-part series, we’re going to talk about sex—in the media. Many advertisers like to associate their products and services with sexy imagery hoping some of the naughtiness and shock gets associated with their brand in the consumer’s subconscious mind. However, showing skin to sell completely unrelated products—like touch-typing courses or car-rental services—is lame. When is it just too much? Is there really such a thing as too much sex is the media? Let’s discuss.
