Obama Approval Rating Sinks To All-Time Low

Americans are losing their trust in President Barack Obama’s leadership and are unenthusiastic about the state of this country, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll. Rapidly increasing concern over the Gulf oil spill, combined with fear of its effect on the economy and the environment, has American citizens looking for more government control over the oil industry.

According to the survey, a majority of adults are in favor of stricter oil industry regulation, as their fears regarding the Gulf oil spill—and its effect on the environment and economy—continue to grow.

Per the survey:

–Sixty-two percent of adults in the survey feel the country is on the wrong track, the highest level since before the 2008 election.

–Just one-third think the economy will get better over the next year, a 7-point drop from a month ago and the low point of Mr. Obama’s tenure.

This is the first time in Obama’s presidential tenure where more people disapprove of his job performance than approve. To add to the plummeting numbers, 57 percent of voters surveyed would rather elect a new person than re-elect their current local representative, the high share in 18 years.

Pollsters attribute voter dissatisfaction with increasing frustration over the oil spill and the economy. Optimism that may have existed has been squashed by the oil spill. It is believed “it would take an enormous and seismic event to change the drift of these powerful forces before November.”

Seventeen percent of Democrats disapprove of Obama’s job performance (the highest level in his presidency). Independent voters are fleeing his camp. Approval among Hispanics, white women, seniors and small-town residents is waning, too. Africans-American remains supportive, with 91 percent approving of his work thus far.

For some of those polled, Obama has becoming increasingly unrelatable. The oil spill—and his perceived lack of involvement in the cleanup—coupled with the current state of a sour economy have darkened views of his leadership style. All this has me asking: Where does Obama go from here?

For the Democratic National Committee, the next step is campaigning and they’re spending $50 million to lure Obama voters back to the party and the polls. But is campaigning enough?

Participants in this poll want less talk, more action. More communication regarding cleanup efforts in the Gulf and what’s being done to improve the state of the struggling economy. Two-thirds of those surveyed want stricter regulation of the oil companies. Most desire stronger regulation of major corporations including health insurers and Wall Street firms. Add to that list increasing support of legislation to reduce carbon emission while increasing the use of both alternative and renewable energy sources and it seems Obama has plenty of opportunity to give the American people change they can believe in.

He has been a disaster in my opinion. It is so obvious he does not know how to get the correct things done. The Gulf oil spill is just one example. Passing a healthcare bill and shoving it down the American people’s throat is another. He clearly is having a tough time as president not to say McCain would have been much better but what I am saying is we need someone in the office who can handle the damn job and is transparent with the American people. I mean he’s gotten a lot of things done in office but all the wrong things, universal healthcare, 3 million jobs lost, stagflation down the road, raising taxes, and on top of it all not being honest with Americans. I mean there is no way he would have gotten 52% of the popular vote by saying he would pass universal healthcare. And how is he going to pay for it? By raising taxes. If he raises taxes on the upper class they won’t hire anyone and no new jobs, if he prints money to pay fo it there is stagflation, if he borrows it from China we will forever be indebted to China and we will be selling our souls to them in which we would be their slaves. I dont get how he still has an approval rating over 40%. I know times are tough I wish I could find an office job some where but he is not making it easy on anyone right now. When I watch him speak on T.V. I wonder is he serious or is he just delusional. I mean I know it started under George bush but I don’t get what he thinks he is proving other than socialism is the answer to all problems. WTF.

The source of the poll is the Wall Street Journal. Its sort of like calling Fox News “fair and balanced”.

  • Honestly as much as we want to point fingers. It’s not all completely his fault. People in this country are getting dumber, greedier while looking for excuses to avoid taking responsibility.

There is no way he’s going to completely undo bush’s and other peoples messes. Especially when he’s busy dealing with all the haters, people looking for their 15min of fame and stupid public shit. The more he’s in the public eye the less time he, his cabinet etc has to work on things.

    1. Making stricter laws really isn’t going to do anything but get company lawyers fed more. Shit happens. People don’t want to own up to it they just want to point fingers. Laws don’t do anything but further complicate things.

Example: It’s a pain in the butt for me to get a bolton aftermarket catalytic converters for my chrysler 300 because of laws. Yet I can buy one that isn’t bolt on and have it fabricated, which will cause more pollution. That law didn’t do anything but hurt the economy of some companies actually here in the US. There are laws that really don’t do anything but over complicate the issue at hand.

    2. Our economy has been going down for years. Reason being is US companies milked the system, still milk the system. They don’t care about the cycle of things they want their product made the cheapest and sold at the highest price possible. Companies know the situation but places like macy’s, sprint, 24hr fitness etc still outsource. Even some companies use tricks like saying “made in the usa”, yet parts are from taiwan etc. Honestly you guys already under estimate the chinese wealth, power etc. Behind the scenes there’s so much.

Then you have idiots that do have a job here, half ass, have an attitude with a god complex at what they do because they know it’s a hassle to fire them or whatever reason. They feel that even though their getting paid, their doing people a favor.

    3. To further enforce what I’m saying. You have more people waiting in line for iphones, twilight or a walmart black friday sale than you would for a charity for feeding the homeless, voting etc. Arizona has a law that is blatantly racist. The govenator tried to pass a law like that a few years back on hispanics.

    4. This country has made it a habit to be greedy, point fingers, hiding, denial, pointing the finger, give the run around, back pedaling, instead of actually dealing with the issues. And you want barrack obama to fix all this and so much more in less than 4yrs when everyone is giving him resistance?

Obama does not know what he is doing. He is a liberal extremist. He just nominated a woman to the supreme court who has no judicial experience. He incites racial angst. Obama believes that prosperity trickles down the butt crack of the federal government. Judgment does matter, Mr. Obama & you do not have the right judgment to be commander in chief. I regret my vote for you every day.

    VOTE REPUBLICAN! PROUD BLACK REPUBLICAN!

Rick, I couldn’t have said it better myself. America is a Business, and all Business is shady.

I work for a Bank which is ran by SNAKES, we have new regulations that are put in place “To help protect the American People” by are filled with loopholes and are only going to make things more complicated to understand and explain.

If people would just take responsibility for their mistakes, instead of pointing the finger our country would be a lot better place.

  • YEahright says:

    He isn’t “undoing” anything.
The same backroom politics and lobbyist control exist that existed before he convinced the lemmings to vote for him. Only worse.
The number one visitor to the White House so far? SEIU? Who are they?

And it was a WSJ/NBC poll. I think NBC is pretty liberal. Typical.

Ok, so, I’m Canadian, I also proud to be one. We have wait times for health care here, but last time I checked, the people that treat us care more about the people they are helping, then the money that’s going to line their bloody pockets. Maybe if health care is Universal for you, things will be fair. Face it, the Rich just keep getting richer and the poor poorer.

I know a fair bit about your foolish health care system, and how claims get denied. I have a difficult time understanding what the hell is wrong with a Unversal health care system. Major companies are still going to outsource work anyway, so what the hell’s the difference.

When it comes to the oil spill in the Gulf, someone is failing MISERABLY!!!!!! That oil spill has the ability to wipe out the entire Western coast of Europe, as well as the East coast of US and Canada. You are staring one of the biggest shitty man-made disasters in the world, right in the face. People care, but do they care enough?

The US is dying a small amount every single day because of bad politics, people who don’t care, poor health care, stupid decisions and irresponsible citizens. If you are really patriotic, stand up for what is write.

And you call us a bunch of mindless idiots at times, I wish you could see the US from our perspective. Then you’ld see a country literally imploding.

  • Concerned Canadian (edit...) says:

Sorry for the typo in “The US is dying a small amount every single day because of bad politics, people who don’t care, poor health care, stupid decisions and irresponsible citizens. If you are really patriotic, stand up for what is write.” I meant to say right instead of “write”.

  • Dave H says:

Geez – what a surprise – people are sticking their finger down their throats over Obama. Yes the pain has gone on for 2 years now and even the casual observer recognizes that BO is a fraud… the worst president in US history and the most unqualified “community organizer” ever to get the keys to the White House. If BO were a CEO the board would fire the man for running the company into the ground. BO’s time is running out and no one running for re-election wants the man any where near – he is TOXIC politically much the same Bush was at the end of his second term.
