LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is now available for Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PS3, PSP and PC. It put an end to Red Dead Redemption‘s five-week run as top seller in the UK.

The adventure begins from Privet Drive to Triwizard Tournament. Experience the books and films as LEGO versions of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and another 100+ Harry Potter characters. Explore Hogwarts, attend lessons, cast spells, brew potions, fly on broomsticks and complete tasks to earn house points.

It’s a cute 3D platform puzzle based game with many levels that can be replayed (under “free-play” to unlock different features and characters). Each character has their own special ability that will help you through each level. You can play with up to 2 players and supposedly you can play co-op online now but it will only be available on Xbox 360 and PS3.

LEGO-based video games are an awesome series for kids (and adults like myself). LEGO has put their own humorous rendering and customization to the adopted stories. The game contains cartoon violence and crude humor so therefore “theoretically” it’s suitable for ages 10 and up.

LEGO’s previous titles include Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones. The Star Wars series has a few kinks and issues with the game play that are addressed in the later titles. I had Indiana Jones for the PSP, but never finished it. I would have to say Batman is my favorite so far but Harry Potter: Years 1-4 looks like the ultimate winner.
