DMX’s First Post-Prison Interview
In the last few years, DMX has made more headlines for his prison stints than his music, but hopefully, that will soon change. The fallen hip-hop star, who was released from prison on July 6 after serving four months for violating probation only to return three weeks later to serve another twenty-two days for a reckless driving charge, finally walked away from jail a free man late last week. Over the weekend, X made an appearance at the 101.5 FM End of Summer JamZ 2010 in Arizona and opened up about his separation from his long suffering wife, Tashera Simmons, and his current strained relationship with his son:
“Let me explain. I supported my son in whatever he wanted to do…whatever you wanna do I will support you…he ended up rapping and our relationship is not the best right now but it’s gonna get better…All he’s known his whole life is me being there. His mother and I are separated, we’re not together anymore…it’s been five or six years but that’s my first-born…That’s my baby.“
According to Tashera, it was the four kids X had with other women, and not his years-long drug habit, that finally made her walk away from the marriage. She recently told Vibe.com:
“I just felt like with the drugs, that in itself is mentally draining. I felt like since we’ve been together for so long I didn’t want to give up on him.”
“But when he started coming up with all these kids, I was like I can’t because, for one, I have kids and I definitely don’t want my daughter to think that that’s okay. The drugs already was too much but then the cheating, I didn’t even know he had time to do that. I mean, I never put it past him; I never say never but without protection? There was just a lot of unprotected sex and I have kids to take care of. I started thinking about all of that and I was like, I can’t do it anymore. I felt he took me for granted.”
Tashera has a book and a reality show in the works (and I can’t wait for both—I live for this stuff!).
