The Future Of MMA: Kids Training In Mixed Martial Arts
It is debatable whether or not training children in the sport of mixed martial arts is a good or bad thing. I, personally, think it’s great. Razak Sports Films and TapouT collaborated on this short film documenting brothers Giovanni and Carlos Ruffalo (ages 8 and 9 respectively) and their coach/father Carlos Sr. as they train in MMA.
It’s an interesting look at two talented young boys and offers some insight on the intricacies of a father training his young boys while still raising his children to be young adults.
It also leads me to ask: Are the boys are too young to learn how to fight? Watch the video and decide for yourself.

Are the boys are too young to learn how to fight?
No, kids have been training in mixed martial arts and boxing for centuries and I think it is a good thing. It is good for their health, teaches them good discipline, allows them to protect themselves if needed in the world and is a good mental and physical outlet. Looks like they are being well taken care of, going to school, have people around them who care about them and I would expect that they will not be fighting outside of the ring since they understand the art around it and probably have a respect for it as a sport.
I wouldn’t want to mess with them when they get older!
Everyone should be crapping their pants by the end of the video…
I’m not sure about the discipline part. Majority of people I run into who do MMA have lil to no discipline. The ones that do, came from a solid art (karate, tkd, etc) and into MMA. I got homies in MMA that have jack someone up without a second thought. Don’t even get me started on the douches who go to UFCGYM. Point is most people in MMA don’t really grasp discipline. I hope these kids do.
It’s aite for self defense but who fights one on one these days? I’ve yet to be in a fight that was one on one or stayed that way. Plus you fight how you train, if you train for rules, that’s how you’re going to fight.
When I took Muay Thai the Muay Thai gym I was at had boxing etc. Let’s put it this way. It’s already been done, It’s still being done at other gyms, dojo’s etc, the only difference is they got cuter haircuts, gear and a video.

They are too young. Not too young to be taught the skills-it is all the rest, the posturing, attitude and agressive nature of MMA is NOT G-rated. MMA is not the Karate Kid. I don’t want to see an 8 year old mean muggin for the camera. It is NOT right.
I think this is a great sport for kids to learn i have a 7 year old that has been doing this for 6 months now. He has gotten into great shape from the exercise involved (which more parents need to get their kids off the couch). He learned you will lose some and win some only with hard work. With the right training and guidence the kids will be fine. They do learn to respect adults and how to work towards goals.

Hey there, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, terrific blog!
Thank you for taking the time to write this!
Hiya, I am really glad I have found this info. Nowadays bloggers publish only about gossip and net stuff and this is actually annoying. A good web site with interesting content, that’s what I need. Thank you for making this website, and I’ll be visiting again. Do you do newsletters? I Can’t find it.
Needed to write you the little note in order to thank you as before on the extraordinary suggestions you have discussed on this site. It’s strangely open-handed of people like you to make publicly what a few individuals would have advertised for an e-book to end up making some bucks on their own, most notably seeing that you could have done it if you ever wanted. Those ideas also served to be the fantastic way to know that someone else have the same interest just as my very own to figure out a little more related to this issue. I think there are a lot more pleasurable opportunities ahead for those who looked at your website.
I think kids MMA is awesome. These kids deserve to be recognized for their skills and talent. Think about it, one day our kids will be cheering for kids that train in the sport now. The kids of MMA have a bright future ahead of them. Thanks for the great article!
