Lady Gaga has been very open about her experiences with drugs and is now stating that they have helped her creatively. In a recent interview with Q Magazine, she discussed how the drugs have impacted her life and career.

“Using drugs, I really figured out the art I wanted to make and was inspired. Some people find inspiration in dark places. I guess I’m one of them. What always made me different is that if I was doing drugs I was also making music. I wasn’t just doing drugs.

GaGa claims that she no longer needs drugs, but won’t rule out doing them on occasion.

“Once you open those doors they’re open for ever. People who say they need drugs to be creative are full of s**t. I’m not some chick on the road getting high and f***ed up every night.

“I wake up, drink coffee and get on the phone to talk about the creative direction of the next video. I won’t lie; it’s occasional. And when I say occasional, I mean maybe a couple of times a year.” [MTV UK]

Who could really find any of this surprising? Gaga doesn’t exactly look like a fiend, but with all the bizarre images and costumes she comes up with, it’s not too shocking that she gets down with a few hallucinogens now and then.

It’s kind of funny how this sort of thing goes over so many peoples heads, but when Soulja Boy got outed for supposedly using cocaine, folks were going cuckoo, saying his career is over. Where is the difference? Is it a gender issue, a race issue, a hip-hop versus rock/pop thing, or do people just not like his “Pretty Boy Swag” that much?
