Angelina Jolie Visits Flood-Ravaged Pakistan
Angelina Jolie has flown to Pakistan as part of her duties as a United Nations (U.N.) ambassador to visit victims of the country’s devastating floods and raise awareness of the people’s ongoing suffering.
Jolie is pictured above at the Kandaro II Camp in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Tomb Raider star has already handed over $100,000 (U.S.) of her own money to help those worst affected by the disaster. U.N. officials have confirmed she arrived in Pakistan yesterday to speak with refugees who’ve been displaced by the floods, and the star hopes the publicity around her visit will boost aid efforts.
“I am very moved by them and I hope that I am able to, today and tomorrow, be able to do something to help bring attention to the situation for all of the people in need in Pakistan,” Jolie told reporters. More than 1,500 people have been killed after torrential downpours caused the worst flooding in a century for the country.
