Denver Broncos’ Kenny McKinley Dies In Apparent Suicide

Denver Broncos’ wide receiver, 23 year-old Kenny McKinley, was found dead yesterday in his home. The cause of death was apparently suicide, by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Everyone from Kenny’s team mates to his agent expressed shock at this tragedy. “He was one of the funniest guys I knew,” former Broncos receiver Brandon Stokley said, according to the Denver Post. “Everything he said and everything he did was funny. That was his personality — he was always happy. A lot of people say that about people that passed, but that’s the truth. He was always a happy, funny guy. That’s what makes this so devastating.”

Kenny was unmarried, but leaves behind a young son who lived with him.

More details from BleacherReport.com:

According to various reports, the Arapahoe County Sheriff was called to McKinley’s home in Centennial, Colorado, just a half hour from Denver, to investigate a possible shooting.
When they arrived, they found McKinley’s body in the second-floor master bedroom, according to ESPN.com. According to the same ESPN report, the Sheriff was called by a female friend of McKinley’s, who had returned from running errands with his young son.

According to various reports, McKinley was killed by a gunshot wound. The Sheriff believes that the wound was self-inflicted, although he declined to comment on whether a suicide note was found, according to the AP report.

“”It’s still part of our investigation and probably nothing we’ll talk about right now,” he said. It is also unclear at this time what would have caused McKinley to take his own life.

Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.

RIP Kenny McKinley
