Kanye West Premieres Runaway In Sydney
Kanye West is currently on a worldwide promotional tour for his short film Runaway and last night’s stop was my hometown of Sydney, Australia.
As in London, Paris and Tokyo, ‘Ye held a Q&A session with invited guests after the screening. He called the 40-minute film “a dream come true” and revealed hopes to eventually turn it into a theatrical piece for Broadway. Citing Michael Jackson as an influence, he said Runaway is the first of several upcoming projects for him that combine music and film, inspired by fantasy but also reflecting pivotal, real-life events.
The film’s premise, according to NineMSN:
West’s directorial debut follows the star’s fantastical romance with a feathered phoenix, played by actress and model Selita Ebanks, who falls from the sky and attempts to integrate into his life.
The pair embark on a series of abstract adventures, including a firework parade and banquet turned ballet, with the phoenix slowly realising that her existence on earth is doomed.
After explaining to West that human kind is anything but—”everything that is different you try to change”—she runs away and sets herself in flames.
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye’s upcoming album, is set for release on November 22.
