Tea Party Member Al Reynolds Says Blacks Prefer Drugs Over Education

Who says racism doesn’t exist in 2010? Illinois State Senate candidate, Al Reynolds recently made some disparaging remarks about black men and college when asked about the subject recently. His response has both Democrats and Republicans up in arms simply because of the sheer ignorance of his response.

“I’ve been in the city and the dichotomy of the women and the men in the minorities, there is a difference in the fact that most minority women, either the single parent or coming from a poor neighborhood, are motivated more so than the minority men. And it’s a pretty good reason. Most of the women who are single parents have to find work to support their family. The minority men find it more lucrative to be able to do drugs or other avenues rather than do education. It’s easier.”

“We need to provide ways that are more incentive, other than just sports avenues, for the men for the minorities to want to go to college and get an education and better themselves before the women have to support them all.”

Say what? There are so many things wrong with this statement that it’s like playing “Where’s Waldo?” to pinpoint just one. He basically summed up all African-Americans in a few sentences as drug dealing, societal failures who will look to the women of their community for support. It’s distasteful, shameful and full of sh*t. Not to mention very offensive.

While the Tea Party continues its crusade to prove their party isn’t racist, situations such as this speak to the contrary. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to slap me a few Tea Party members.

    When I was fifty-two
It was a very weird year
It was a very weird year of Tea party girls
    And twisted extremes
    With their right wing dreams
    They didn’t have a clue
    When I was fifty-two

But now the days are short
We’re in the autumn of the years
And now I think of this place
As Wonder Bread turned green from mold
    To rocks from gold
    We were gripped by fear
It was a very weird year….

Look, I am a black young man in college, but I’m not necessarily offended by this. I’m from a very poor and small neighborhood and I can attest to exactly what he said. When white people use stereotypes the first thing most black people do is say “that’s not true for everybody,” but that’s not his point. Of course with ANYTHING said there are going to be exceptions, but what he said describes a big portion of makes in my graduating class. I feel like instead of getting offended and attacking him, we should be more focused on reaching back to or home and deterring or young make family members from being another statistic.

I see I had alot of typos, so replace make with males, and those last two or’s with our’s and you’ll get my message… (must be the swype…)

Thank you for that perspective, Black Man. I think you’re on to something there.

  • It’s F’d up what he said and I also agree with Black Man. But the thing with racism is few want to stick around and find out the reason why. While racism is supported by ignorance, idiots etc. 90%ish of the time the person who’s racist has been around or ran into some “reinforcing the stereo type”. As we all know most of humanity likes to group people because it’s easier and can’t separate things for shizz.

So instead of getting mad at Mr Fluffy Reynolds I think we need to find who his helpers are talking about (we all know he got the info from somewhere) and smack the smarts back into them.

And atleast he’s trying to come with a fix to the problem. While we got people like waka flame, saying you don’t need school. And they’re not teaching you to be ceo’s and what their teaching you is old etc etc.

These people get get paid to keep the national debate going. This clown your limbaugh’s,O’Reiley,Beck etc.America has already decided what is a decent civilized society.Health care and equality for all social safety nets for hard times and the poor, abortion(Rowe V Wade).Every week like clockwork a wack job comes along and says something to get the debate started again. What ever the comment is bounces around the media for a week and its over.During the week of this silly wedge issue America rehashes a settled debate.

Fifth teen minutes of every hour long political debate is wasted on ROWE V WADE.It will never be overturned why debate it more.

As African American we have larger social battles to fight. For instance teen pregnancy, gun control, voter registration and turn out and a host of other issues that plague our communities.Don’t try to fix the racist fix the problems.Mr Reynolds can say what ever he wants its not true. While this relic harps about a past that never was i will be moving forward.sticks and stones
