Allen Iverson’s Crazy Turkish Reception
Cheer up, Allen Iverson. Sure, you didn’t get offered a NBA contract (actually, he might have, but with a team asking him to come off the bench, and AI wasn’t going to play that role), but look on the bright side—instead of having to play in front of a handful of depressed fans in Philadelphia for a 76ers squad going nowhere fast, now you’re having your name chanted by over 30,000 screaming Turks.
After being mobbed on his arrival in Turkey (a couple of days late mind you—he missed his original flight) to play for Besiktas Cola Turka, Iverson took his talents to a Besiktas FC soccer match. When introduced to the fans, this was the reaction Iverson received (below). Amazing stuff. (Side note: I know DrJays’ Boss Lady is melting while Iverson smiles and cheers during this clip.)
Once he actually hits the court, here’s hoping AI doesn’t get this less-than-warm-welcome (below). Maybe Mike Batiste shouldn’t have watched American History X as part of his pre-game routine.
