Usher & Alicia Keys Being Sued For Plagiarism
“My Boo” duet singers Usher and Alicia Keys are being sued for allegedly stealing Ursh’s 2004 Confessions hit record “Caught Up” from an unfamiliar songwriter.
According to a lawsuit filed by Wadena Pyatt in the Eastern District of New York, the track is a “plagiarized” version of a tune she penned as an artist on Keys’ MBK Entertainment label.
Pyatt claims she wrote the original version of “Caught Up” in 2002 while she was under contract with MBK—which is owned by Keys and her business partner, Jeff Robinson. [AHH]
The song, released as Usher’s fifth single for Confessions, peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained on the charts for 27 weeks. The credits have Ryan Toby (one-third of that old group City High), Dre & Vidal and Jason Boyd as the writers for the song.
Apparently, Pyatt nabbed a record deal in 2003 and planned on using the song for her own debut album—until Usher pop-locked all over it. She’s suing for “full accounting, as well as damages disgorgement of any profits received from sales.” That’s a shame, especially since Mashonda has already accused Alicia of being a thief this year.

Dont hatee* On Nicki yall Fake…. (HB)*
Alicia Keys does not, nor has ever owned MBK. She only used to be managed by the owner, Jeff Robinson, and he no longer manages her either, so really this has absolutely nothing to do with her.
What a surprise, someone using a celebrity name to bring attention to themselves. Wait a minute, we’ve seen this before, haven’t we? Oh yes, with that chick you mentioned, who’s only claim to fame is that her ex is now married to Alicia Keys.
This blogger is stupid for mentioning Mashonda. Dumb ass comparison. Alicia doesn’t have anything to do With that song, nor did she own that company yet y’all still attack her.Dre and Vidal claim the song why not go after them? Oh because they aren’t big names.
What people will do to get attention or should I say $$$$$$? Wait years and years and complain about something just to get something stirred up. This is so ridiculous. Hope people aren’t dumb enough to believe everything they hear or read. She didin’t have a problem with the song when it came out and I assume she knew it then so why all the fuss now? People leave other people alone and stop trying to make something off them.
Guess some will blame anyone who will get them some attention, even if it’s not true. Drag anyone down as long as it helps them. $$$$$$=EVIL
