Apparently Waka Flocka Flame isn’t the only one who goes hard in the paint.

President Barack Obama spent some time Friday with friends and family at Fort McNair engaging in Urban America’s favorite pastime: basketball.

Also there for the game were his assistant and former Duke University ballplayer Reggie Love (a mainstay in the president’s hoops forays) and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

During the last of five games played by the distinguished group, the President was hit in the lip with the elbow of Rey Decerega, Program Director for the Congressional Hispanic Institute. Decerega was taking a jump shot with the President playing hard-nosed defense when the injury occurred. It is not known if Decerega made or missed the shot.

Decerega later released a statement via the White House.

“I learned today the President is both a tough competitor and a good sport. I enjoyed playing basketball with him this morning. I’m sure he’ll be back out on the court again soon.”

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs also released a statement detailing the injuries sustained by the President.

“After being inadvertently hit with an opposing player’s elbow in the lip while playing basketball with friends and family, the President received 12 stitches today administered by the White House Medical Unit.”

The President could be seen holding an ice pack up to his lip as the Official White House Christmas Tree was delivered today.

While it is true Obama will probably be back on the court soon, we have a feeling Decerega has played his last game of 5-on-5 with the leader of the free world.
