Shameless Product Placement on Days of our Lives
Mommas stories aren’t what they used to be. While soap operas haven’t always been a haven for thespian excellence, the show Days of our Lives has sunken to a new low by allowing product placements during their show. Advertisers can now purchase actual face time, written into the script by Days of our Lives writers, and acted out by the television actors—a sort of stimulus plan.
This move is in response to a drop in viewership and in turn advertisements. However, the blatant product placement has show purist and fans squirming in their sofas. But as bad as this comes across to viewers, it may actually add comic relief to what is already bad writing and poor acting. It’s not as if Days of our Lives is Shakespeare. Though, I do believe it was Hamlet who said, “To sell Cheerios or not to sell Cheerios, that is the question.”
