The Player: Outfielder Vernon Wells

The Team: Toronto Blue Jays

The Contract: 7 years, $126 million

The Result: Wells hasn’t been a total bust yet, but there’s a simple reason why the Blue Jays won’t be a serious contender for a few more years: Wells’ gigantic contract. It’s unmovable. It’s ridiculously high. And it’s being spent on a player who seems to have gotten progressively worse since signing his big deal. All is not Wells in Toronto right now. All T-Dot fans can hope for is that the Yankees get desperate for a passably good designated hitter sometime soon and opt for this overpaid player.
