DMX Headed Back To Prison, Estranged Wife Claims Phoenix Authorities “Set Him Up”
Earl Simmons, better known to the hip-hop world as DMX, is headed back to prison (little surprise there). In an order issued by the Maricopa County Superior Court on Thursday, the troubled rapper, who celebrates his 40th birthday tomorrow, was told he must spend a year behind bars for violating probation. According to the New York Daily News:
“Simmons was arrested last month for violating probation. He told KSAZ-TV in Phoenix he was kicked out of a drug treatment program because he had a drink at a Scottsdale club during a performance.
Court documents allege Simmons failed to submit to drug testing and drove on a suspended license.”
Despite what the court papers say, X’s estranged wife, Tashera Simmons, painted a different picture of how the fallen hip-hop star came to violate his probation when she appeared on my radio show, Street Disciplez Radio, last month, days after X’s arrest. According to the mother of four, officials in Arizona “set him up”:
“He only had three weeks left [of probation], and they set him up. ‘Cause he was in a rehab that they put him in because he was driving dirty, and they gave him permission to go do a show. How do you give someone that’s supposed to be in a rehab permission to do a show?…It was a set up, and then X, I can’t even believe that he even took a drink knowing the situation.”
During the interview, Tashera, who has a reality show and a book in the works, also spoke on her belief that Arizona authorities dislike X. I can totally understand why she believes that considering X’s issues with the law have grown to gargantuan proportions since his relocation there. That being said, a move back to the concrete jungle after his release from prison in a year may not be such a bad idea…I’m just saying. Anyway, check out our interview with Tashera in its entirety below (she speaks on X’s current legal troubles beginning at the 5:40 mark):
