Charlamagne The God Speaks On Cipha Sounds’ Controversial Comments
DJ Cipha Sounds was suspended indefinitely after making disparaging comments recently regarding Haitian women and HIV. But although Hot 97 has stated they have a three-step plan for righting the wrongs the DJ made, Power 105.1 morning host Charlamagne Tha God had some choice words for not only Cipha Sounds, but the station’s handling of the incident.
Charlamagne expressed disappointment in how the station “punished” Cipha Sounds.
“[Hot 97] ‘so-called’ suspended a guy during the holidays,” he said. “He was gonna be off anyway! They don’t care about the people, so why do we care about them?”
Charlamagne also feels Cipha Sounds’ apology was hollow and should carry no weight with the public.
“I’m from the South, so I know about hatred toward ethnic groups,” he said. “So when he said that he reps Haitians heavy and he says ‘sak pase’ before all his parties, it was the equivalent to a racist redneck getting called out on being racist and saying to the people, ‘I’m not racist, all my best friends are black.’”
“Any person who would throw hate at the Haitians at any time, but especially at this moment and time…A person like this doesn’t care about the people period,” he continued.
Although Charlamagne has been known to rub a few people the wrong way with his off-color comments, he does have a very valid point.
