Can You Handle The Cape?
If you’ve been catching promos for a show with a masked and caped protagonist which partially seems to be a Batman ripoff you’re probably wondering what The Cape is all about.
Slated to begin early next year on NBC, The Cape tells the story of Vince Faraday, an honest police officer on a corrupt police force which turns against him and frames him for multiple murders and crimes. Betrayed and left for dead, Faraday goes into hiding and is trained to become a superhero by a circus ringleader (I can’t make this stuff up, folks). He must stay in hiding, separated from his family, as he tries to clear his name and does so under the alias “The Cape,” which is his son’s favorite comic book character.
Vigilante justice is sure to be taken to the extreme on this show, and “The Cape” eventually teams up with a blogger to help put a stop to crime in the fictional Palm City.
David Lyons (of ER and Eat, Pray, Love fame) stars as The Cape and is joined by cast members Summer Glau, Jennifer Ferin, and Keith David, among others.
While the costume seems just a bit weird and tacky, this show seems worth a try, although NBC dragged a great show with a superhero theme (Heroes) to the ground earlier this year.
Here’s hoping they get it right this time.
The Cape is slated for a two-hour premiere January 9 at 9 p.m. ET.
