“No Anorexia” Model Isabelle Caro Dies At 28

Isabelle Caro, the French model who posed nude for an anti-anorexia campaign while suffering from the illness herself, has died at 28.

Although she passed away early last month due to an acute respiratory illness, her death is only now making international headlines. It’s not yet clear why it’s taken so many weeks for the news to become public.

In 2007, Caro appeared in posters for an anti-anorexia campaign at the height of the debate among fashion circles on the use of “ultra-skinny” models on the catwalk. The model, who weighed 32kg (five stones) at the photo shoot, reportedly said at the time: “I thought this could be a chance to use my suffering to get a message across, and finally put an image on what thinness represents and the danger it leads to—which is death.”

Caro was featured on Jessica Simpson‘s The Price Of Beauty reality show on VH1 earlier this year:
