Raven Symone Isn’t Thrilled About Weight Loss
Raven Symone’s name was buzzing all about the blogosphere and Twitter trends after her appearance at Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards. The child star flaunted a slimmed down look in all-black with over the knee Louboutin boots and even some exposed bosom. Although fans are in love with her new look, Raven isn’t quite comfortable with her weight loss yet.
“I thought I looked fabulous before and nobody else did,” she tells People. “So, whatever.
Actually, now I wear bigger clothes because I don’t like the way people stare at me,” she says. “I liked it before. Now, you’re just looking at me for the wrong reasons. Before, you were actually looking at me for a real reason.”
Now people are looking at her like she’s a kinky fox—black leather outfits can do that. It’s nice to see her in shape and hopefully Gabourey Sidibe is taking note. Raven is currently working on a pilot with ABC Family called The Great State of Georgia.

Why the crack about Gabourey Sidibe? The last paragraph makes it seem as if this article misses the point of Raven’s comments entirely. She is basically say she was happy with herself and other people made her feel less than. So she lost weight to fit in and to stop being made to feel bad about herself. That’s NOT a positive step. Sure, weighing less is healthier for the most part, but is it worth sacrificing a positive self image for? Why can’t we just let people like Gabby and Raven feel good about themselves no matter their size? Who are we to judge or make comments on how they *should* look? Even if it is in the guise of “positive” encouragement. I just feel like a lot of people clutch on to this critique of “living healthy” as a way to continue to demean overweight people.
