What Did You Think About The Return Of The Game?
The Game made its return to network television after being shut down by the CW amidst fan disapproval a little over a year ago. When BET picked up the show to broadcast new episodes, many were skeptical, for good reason. BET hasn’t been the best place for new television shows. But still, most were hopeful that The Game would make a successful comeback.
The first episode found the cast living their respective lives two years after the last episode. Melanie and Derwin are married but Derwin has a child by his ex-girlfriend Janay. Jason and Kelly have divorced—Jason is holding out on his team and Kelly has began shooting a reality show. Malik‘s ego has grown in epic proportions as he is now sleeping with his boss’ wife, while his mother Tasha has been in a relationship with the younger Dante.

It’s a solid start to a show that has forged a strong fanbase. But after the first episode, we’re wondering how close the show is to jumping the shark. The first episode started off with a bang—the main storyline regarding Derwin’s relationship with Melanie and his 2-year-old son went from zero to sixty. A botched DNA test leads Melanie to question Derwin’s son’s paternity, when, in fact, the child is his. So in 60 minutes we went from Derwin not being the father of the son and being devastated to Melanie finding out the DNA test was wrong all along. So now we have to watch as Melanie struggles with the decision to tell her husband she was wrong. What will happen?
Elsewhere, Malik’s ego is so incredibly out of control we’re just waiting for it to blow up in his face. Not only is he sleeping with the boss’ wife, but he is also treating his friend and former assistant and cousin Tee-Tee like a lackey, even though Tee-Tee has successfully started his own business. Kelly has become a diva with a reality show and Jason is just Jason. Nothing to see here—yet.
All in all, it’s a good start. Here’s hoping the show keeps up the momentum throughout the season. That’s what fans of the show want.

Wow!!! To the first post…you must be an idioit. They could not answer all of those questions in one show. If they would have it would have been like watching a documentary. I’m pretty sure that all of your questions will be answered throughout the season.

These people used to care about each other. Now its like a reality TV show. Bring back the old Game I fell in love with in re-runs. There was drama before, but now there is too much too soon!!
I love The Game. I think Med school should have waited to tell Darwin abotu the DNA test. I am like so scared now I hope they do not break-up. What the hell happen to Malik i mean he is out of control. ANd what about the friendships nobody seems to be friends anymore. no hanging out kicking it. whats up with that. BUt all in all i am a huge The Game fan I watch the reruns over and over and i also have it recorded on DVR. i cant wait to see what happens Tuesday..
I was so overwhelmed for the return of Game. I can’t believe the some of the comments of people being unhappy with the first show. Pleassse a bunch of weaklings upset with it being so strong they came in head first (no Joke). I believe they will be around a while regardless to those comments.

I have mixed emotions about The Game. I think that it will get much better, but first off, I don’t like Melanie’s hair. I think there were too many changes made abruptly. Had the writers made the changes as we watched it would have made the transition a lot smoother. Please bring back the first Brittany (Jason and Kelly’s daughter). This one overdid it a little bit to me. Malik in this supersized mansion….Again, too overboard. Tasha’s previous house which was bright and airy was perfect for her. I would have much rather seen Tasha or Melanie and Derwin house hunting, that to just thrust the audience into entirely new surroundings for their characters. Just all my thoughts. No one has to agree or disagree.
I was very disappointed by the first episode. First of all, I think it was too much for one episode which is probably due to it being an hour long. Secondly, it now seems more like a nighttime soap opera; the show seems so scripted now while on the old show, the actors all seemed to take ownership of their characters. I had to wrestle with whether to watch “The Game” or “Lights Out” because both shows aired at the same time. I ended up watching The Game first because Lights Out was repeated at 11:00. I have to admit that I was more impressed with Lights Out!
I have been waiting for soooo long to have this show back on the air, and I have to say, “BET…you did me proud!” I like most of the story lines, I understood the need to make the premiere a little dramatic, I kinda would have liked for the whole DNA thing to have been drawn out a few more episodes though. At first I didn’t understand why “Kelly Pitts” is such a DIVA/B–ch, but maybe she is really hurt and this is her way of lashing out. I really hope that BET doesn’t somehow mess with Melanie and Derwin’s marriage and have them end up like Kelly and Jason. I have waited for sooo long for this couple to get together and I would really love to see them work through any obsticles that come there way and show the audience that marriage is alot of hard work and committment, trust, and responsibilty, and that you can overcome many setbacks if you work together and are devoted. I think the younger generations need to see some better role models and I do feel that BET and the cast of “The Game” can do that.
I’m conflicted on how I feel about the show. My initial feeling is I”M NOT IMPRESSED @ ALL…. however, I do beleive that it will get better in time. I don’t think it was neccessary to skip 2 years just because they have been gone for two years. So, much to fill us in on. However, I loved the show before and I’m sure in time, I will grow to LOVE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
I too, waited so long for “The Game” to return. I’ve really enjoyed watching the cast on past seasons Episodes. I’m glad that this season kicked off very fast paced. As far as Derwin and his son it shows that he is a wonderful Father and women need to embrace this; I’m happy that “DJ is his Son. Melanie is going to have to understand that it is what it is! I will be tuning in every Tuesday to watch what happens next; I loving the show and glad it’s back.
I want the actress who played Jason and Kelly’s daughter to come back. She was more realistic as their daughter. Poor Melanie, what can one say. She should have just pursued her dream and became a doctor – she can get a man later. Tasha is Tasha – should have stayed with Rick Fox. Malik is Malik – always going to treat Tee Tee that way and last, but not least, Jason should have stayed with Camille. Will keep watching – glad it is back!
Glad its back–I’ve been waiting. Also for those who didn’t like the drama or changes–they were trying to catch you up on what’s been happening for two years. They couldn’t keep everyone the exact same–its been two years. Plus we’re used to a half hour comedy show and this was an hour. Its difficult to put together an hour-long comedy.
I came to dislike The Game because towards its cancellation there was nothing but soap opera drama. Initially, it was a good urban comedy kind of like Martin/Living Single. Heck, Different World had drama, but at least it kept me laughing. Honestly, I only recorded The Game to see how they would bring it back. I wasn’t laughing one bit. My bad, I thought it was a comedy. They should put The Game on at 3:00 with General Hospital. Guess I’m not feeling the drama over kill of what use to be a comedy. Hope they fix it and lighten the show back up. My opinion.
ECSTATIC THAT IT’S BACK—– I think it started off great except for ruining melanie’s character. Everything as expected. Malik still egotistical, kelly still pissed at tasha, jason changed a bit it seemed (he went from cheap to inviting ppl for spa dates). As for Derwin and Melanie I hope they stay together, Med School should have waited for the final results before tellin her husband. I hope she comes clean and do not keep it a secret then get pregnant……..ohhhh I can’t waitttt!!!

HYPPOPOTMUS HAPPY THAT IT’S BACK—– I felt like a kid in a candy store becuase I have waited so long fo it. It started very good because the all look very Sophisticated. Im loving the new looks. Med school should have just stayed in her place because Darwin loves her unconditionally but I hope that this does not interfer with them because they have can over alot of bumpy roads. Malik is still egotistical,and self centered. I love the fact that kelly has made her own life and is still pissed at tasha. Im not sure what jason is doing because he still is cheap. As for Derwin and Melanie I cant wait to see what happens when she tell him the results and really does Janae must not think its his baby because she looked surprised when he ask here.I think that she did it because she might be pregnant herself. That would be great if she was. But yes yes yes Janae wants there life…….I can’t wait till next week…
That was a nice comeback after 2 years. It is my favorite television show of all times. I think Melanie should have not had that DNA test done. Malik looks like he is going to be a butthead and Malik is so wrong on how he did TT after TT would do anything for Malik. Tasha is always Tahsa. Kelly is finally becoming her own. Jason is still cheap. Janay always will be a hoe. Derwin is finally BALLIN!!!!!!!!!!!! I think they should have stayed with that not being Derwin’s baby because Janay went to Miami when Derwin was hurt. Overall im glad they have brought THE GAME back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG last nites show was so crazy i cant believe that melonie did that i use to think that she was me nd Derwin was my x.but when she decided not to tell hym wat happened made mii change my thoughts about her o well i ges ill have to see wat happens next epoisode.
It was a little too strong for a premier. The characters have changed too much! I understand that life change and people get promoted, but every last one of the characters have changed and become too cocky. It’s okay to change situations , but stick to the personalities. Jason is mad crazy and at least kel and Jason loved each other. Now they have turned into the war of the roses. Malik was always silly, but his character is repulsive and speaks negative volums for football players. Tasha has always been crazy and funny, but she went off on Melanie. Bring back the old personalities. Stop trying too hard. Kel looks and acts like a prostitute! And why does sweet Britanny have to have a funky attitude?
The first thing I say after the show was over is, “I stayed up to watch this!!!” I was actually falling asleep on the show, something I would never have done when it was on before. Very disappointing, nothing to laugh about the whole show. Didn’t like Tasha’s character and Kelly is so ghetto now and looks like a man. Will Melaine and Derwin every have a happy relationship. Malik, didn’t like his character at all. I used to laugh at some of his lines, not Tuesday night. TT, the same there, didn’t laugh at all, in fact felt sorry for his character. Jason and Kelly’s daughter, what happen????? BET you picked the wrong person to play her. I was a real fan of The Game, so I will give it a couple of episodes and see if it will be worth watching……I hope so. BET, very disappointed….just my opinion.
Totally understand the decision to pick up 2yrs later. Some of the guest starring actors (like Rick Fox & Jason’s girl) moved on, so it would have been difficult to pick up exactly where it left off. I’m sure the rest of the season will develop & tell their storyline. But Brit-Brat’s character…say what!!! Ok, I know she was going in the ‘acting out’ teen direction, but DANG, isn’t she like a little too dark to be their make-believe child. I’m just saying…well I guess if we could believe that Thelma and Michael were Florida and James’ kids, we can get used to this one. Smh

Med School aka Girl Melanie aka Mels- get the girl who did the DNA test to meet with you and Derwin in a park or something public, explain the situation to him with the test being wrong, but say it like you’re happy for him. Don’t listen to no-man-keeping-Tasha or no-man-having-Kelly. End up with no man! Ya just grew ya hair back, hell..and who didn’t toss a throw pillow at the TV in an attempt to stop her from cutting it the last time?!?! Ok!
Tee-Tee- Y’all know where he went when he left Malik’s….Parker’s hubby, the team owner. Two words, 4 syllables… Whistle Blower. Ha!! Loves me some Tee-Tee!

One more thing, BET, can we tone down the sex scenes? I mean really, that was too much. And can we lighten the characters back up (figuratively for all but one….literally when it comes to Brit-Brat..who in the hell is in charge of casting..anyhow, like I said.. Michael-Thelma-Michael-Thelma-Michael-Thelma)? But does everyone have to be so ‘not-likeable’? Ok..four more things…BET let’s do the obvious and ditch Let’s Stay Together and make The Game the 1-hr comedy/drama it was destined to be. That one girl from Lincoln Heights is just as irritating as when she was chasing Charles. Ugh…

Honestly, I think any man paying child support or spending a significant amount of money on a child should know for sure if the child is really his. Let’s keep it real. DNA testing is usually the best way to determine that, unless the man knows for sure that the woman hasn’t been with anyone except him. If a woman sleeps with two men, gets pregnant, and decides to “designate” one man as the child’s father for whatever reason, the child is at a disadvantage. It is also unfair to the other man (who has not been told of the possibility of fathering a child), that they don’t get the opportunity to be a father. I’m all for women rights, but no woman has a right to deceive her partners, child, and play God. The moral thing to do would be to just tell the truth. If the other man doesn’t want the child, some men will take responsibility for the child even if it’s not theirs. But, he should have a choice, and say in the matter. A lot of people got sidetracked, and expressed how wrong it was for Melanie to DNA test the little boy without Derwin’s consent. And that if Derwin believed it was his child, she should have as well. Well, life doesn’t work that way. It was wrong, but the underlying problem with the Melanie-Derwin-Janay triangle is that he produced a child with a woman he was with for only a short period of time. In addition, the child didn’t really look him nor Janay. That further complicated things, and made the little boy’s paternity (in Melanie’s eyes) questionable. I don’t think I would have resolved my questions of the little boy’s paternity that way, but I would have expressed my concern to Derwin, and if he blew me off, we would likely have a problem.
I was disappointed with last season’s show. Melanie and Darwin should have been more connected after the wedding where they finally seemed to compromise and support one another. Also, everyone is in a turmoil. Should’nt someone be stable for at least a minute? Come on now, the writer can surely do a better job. Quickly before it is canceled again!
