Oprah Reveals Her “Secret”: A Long-Lost Half-Sister

Submitted by on January 24, 2011 – 11:51 amNo Comment

Oprah Winfrey announced this morning the discovery of a half-sister, Patricia, currently living in Milwaukee.

Patricia—who will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show later today—was given up for adoption by Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee, shortly after her birth in 1963 and reportedly lived in and out of foster care until the age of seven (more details will be revealed during today’s show).

Oprah recently announced she was given news “that literally shook me to my core. I’ve been keeping a family secret for months, and you’re gonna hear it straight from me.”

The talk show queen then set the internet abuzz, with her fans taking to blogs and chat rooms to discuss what the secret might be (some guessed father Vernon Winfrey would be revealed as her non-biological parent, as has been rumored in the past).

It’s not yet clear whether Oprah had a meeting with her long-lost sister off-camera prior to the show’s taping. Whatever the case is, it’s sure to be an emotional episode.

The Oprah Winfrey Show is in its 25th and final season. Oprah launched the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) at the beginning of this month.
