2011 Grammy Awards: Best & Worst Dressed

The Grammy Awards seem to be a free-for-all when it comes to fashion. Some dudes rock tuxes, others dont’t. Some women wear glamorous gowns, while others show up in more creative getups—such as eggs.
From Nicki Minaj to Justin Bieber, check out my roundup on the best and worst dressed of the 2011 Grammy Awards’ red carpet:
THE BEST

Usher kept it cool and casual with a grey tee, black leather jacket and olive green pants. He spiced up his ensemble with some funky straight-jacket like boots, and I dig how his gear had a slightly slouchy fit.

Kim Kardashian went for the “va-va-voom” factor with this glittery gold Kaufman Franco number. It’s nothing too exciting, but flattering, along with her hair and makeup.

Although my fellow Torontonian (sadly) didn’t win any awards last night, Drake pulled off this all-black, nicely tailored Giorgio Armani suit. Love the peak lapels on the jacket and bow tie.

Keri Hilson has to be my favorite of the night. She looked stunning in this vibrant blue Basil Soda mini, and her hair (which usually bothers me) looked fantastic. While sleeveless mini dresses can often be boring, the cut and gold detail of this piece do wonders. Nice shoe choice, too.

Wow—Jennifer Hudson looks like a new person with her svelte figure! Love everything from the peek-a-boo highlights in her hair to the navy shade of her adorable Versace dress.

Diddy kept it clean with tuxedo pants, patent black leather oxford shoes, a white shirt and leather jacket. The only thing he could have lost were the ridiculous grills he had in his mouth. Does he look slimmer to you?
THE WORST

Ah, Katy Perry. Candy colors and glitters are all good, but this Armani Privé dress was more fitting for Halloween. Angel wings? Why? She still managed to look scrumptious, but we know Katy can do better.

Willow, I know you’re not even in your teens yet, but come on. A brown and gold cape, white platform shoes and a mustard yellow top? Not exactly easy on the eyes.

What was Ciara thinking? I don’t even know where to start. A royal blue/white sequin cut-out top with a sheer train, and harsh black heels? This superhero steez by Pucci was all wrong.

So animal prints were a big trend during the night. Swizz Beatz wore a leopard print jacket and Keri Hilson wore a bold leopard-print dress to one of the parties surrounding the award show. Nicki Minaj, however, took the cue too literally we see with this Givenchy getup.

Justin Bieber seems to almost get it right these days. Love the all-white D&G suit with black bow tie and pocket square, but the kicks are too much this time. The pants just don’t look right tucked into them. Also, he needs a new tailor. Maybe next time, Biebs.

Simply put, there’s too much going on here with Esperanza Spalding. The big hair combined with the neverending ruffles on her green dress is making my eyes sore. Paired with the pink heels—I’ve seen enough. Congratulations on the big award win though!

Lenny Kravitz is taking away from his natural gorgeousness with all this rock n’ roll going on. If he kept the boots, the leather pants and replaced the oversized studded fur vest with something more demure, he’d be good. And still a total rockstar of course.

Don’t get me wrong, Jennifer Lopez seems to get more fabulous by age. Her hair, makeup and body look incredible. But speaking of age…isn’t this super Pucci mini a little inappropriate for her? Beyond the fact that I can see a little too much of her inner thighs, she looks like a disco ball. All that matching silver hardware in her shoes and clutch is going overboard.

Rihanna‘s Jean-Paul Gaultier dress reminded me a little of one that she wore to a previous Grammy Awards show, in that it was also white and feathery. Except this year’s was a total bore. It gives you a glimpse at her awesome figure, but other than that, it doesn’t do much else.
As we mentioned, one of the hottest trends of the night was animal print among both men and women. But you don’t need to go head-to-toe like Miss Minaj. Check out a couple of our favorite animal print pieces on DrJays.com:
Daizy Lace-Up Wedged Bootie by Apple Bottoms
Leopard Camo Tee by Crooks & Castles

You lost a fan, Lenny! Lose the fur or I’ll never buy another cd, download, tshirt or ticket to see you. Be more sensistive, bro! African-American and Jewish and you are that insensitive to suffering and abuse? Shame!
