Celebrity Collections: Do They Make The High-Fashion Cut?

Let’s touch base on the continuously popular trend of celebrity fashion lines. I believe it’s safe to say that having an urban line is easier for celebrities to get away with than a high fashion one. It’s tougher to be taken seriously and respected when you’re showing you collection during New York Fashion Week next to Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs.

But Gwen Stefani, the Olsen twins and Victoria Beckham are four lovely ladies who’ve braved Fashion Week once again. Let’s see how they did:

The Row by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

The cute little toddlers from Full House have come a long way, from having every product you can imagine on store shelves to an upscale fashion line called The Row.  This season, they impressed crowds with a collection boasting a plentiful offering of fur and rich coats, striking a perfect balance between finely tailored and relaxed fits. The twins also introduced a handbag collection, which will be priced along the lines of Hermes. “The workmanship and materials are at that level,” Ashley points out.

L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani

The fall 2011 L.A.M.B collection is full, fun, youthful and diverse. The show was split into six themes: Solider Girls, Ragga Muffins, London Girls, Buffalo Girls, Mod Girls and Glamour Girls. As you can guess by the theme names, there was a colorful mix of military, 70s, western and British-inspired fashions moving up  the runway.  Gwen diversified her silhouettes and colors, creating a collection of both demure and exuberant looks.

At a glance, it would seem Victoria Beckham’s fall 2011 line is super simplistic with mostly clean dresses in solid colors. But when you take a closer look, you will find beautifully draped dresses, structured coats (a new category for the designer) and subtle details such as angular necklines and ruffled collars. The vibrant shades of yellow, orange and magenta lit up the runway.
