Have Men Lost Their Place In Society?

Ask statisticians, sociologists, and women about relationships and you’ll find one thing in common. It’s taking longer and longer for young bachelors to become “grown ass men.” In fact, many of these people would argue that young men (more specifically, men in their 20s) are caught in limbo, a sort of no-man’s land between adolescence and adulthood.
What are the reasons for this shift from the well-defined man’s man of yesteryear and the twenty-something of the present who needs everything short of a babysitter ?
For one, there is a totally different job market out there. Technical skills are not nearly as sought as they once were, so there is a rush to graduate school for specialized training in the most valuable disciplines. To put it simply, it takes a lot longer to find that career path than it used to. The lack of job security may be contributing to the lack of willingness to settle down or commit. Furthermore, ladies are more likely to get college degrees, graduate degrees, and high-earning jobs than their male counterparts as they seem to show more drive and ambition than ever before.
It should also be considered there is quite a large dating pool out there for today’s bachelor. To put it simply, many of us just don’t seem to be ready to banish away all of the potential hook-ups. When moving up the corporate ladder today means exhibiting more flexibility and mobility than ever before for both sexes, we seem to realize we no longer have to give up the practice of frolicking with frequency, either.
Outside of the economy and job market, men have—in many ways—become nearly obsolete in society, or so it seems. Single mothers have become infamous for raising children without the help of unwilling men who abandon their responsibilities. Men are no longer even needed to procreate. Single women who want children can take a trip to the clinic and be mothers all on their own.
Finally, men don’t seem to want to grow up and be men because, well, they don’t have to. Their relationship prospects don’t seem to require it, so they choose not to. Today’s woman doesn’t need the mature adult who is ready for marriage and fatherhood, so many of us no longer offer that option. For most men (especially bachelors), attracting women is the primary motivating force behind many of the decisions we make. If this can be executed without half of the work it used to take, most won’t bother to go any further. Here is comedian Dave Chappelle‘s hilarious, yet poignant take on the subject.
For the longest time, our roles as men in society were well-defined. A man was the provider and protector of the family, period. Nowadays, these definitions of manhood are literally vanishing, giving way to the more indecisive and immature recent college graduate who still lives like a college student and retains the same mentality.
While we may lack the same material and sociological motivations men once had, we must still recognize the inherent honor in propriety, maturity, and responsibility. No matter how much things have changed, at some point we still have to become men and put away childish things.

I have to disagree. Why do we have to become men? We have no purpose to be men anymore. We have no role in society. Except to fix things. We aren’t needed as fathers. We aren’t needed as providers. We’ve been stifled.
I agree with the first comment. We have no role as adults in US culture. Worst yet we are portrayed as bafoons and idiots in popular media. I will say this much- woman from Africa, south America and dare I say Asia and middle east – want a male to be a man and appreciate it when he is. Not to the detriment of a woman’s role in society – but to the strength of a successful family.
I am sorry all the young guys feel this way. This is NOT right! You guys are wonderful, so get up from your computer games and be the men you want to be! There still are a lot of women out there who want a nice, old-fashioned man, you just need to be open to this sort of woman if that is what you want. Make your place in society and stop wallowing in your own self pity, this is a terrible trait for both men and women and it will get you no where good! Get involved, join community centers and sports teams and meet other men that share like minded hobbies and interests. There is still hope for the men of America and there are women who will LOVE you! Stop being so sad about this and do something POSITIVE about it! I am rooting for you, really I am!
So how do I have it good Lexi? I am a white male born and raised in a poor family. I work my azz off at work never get promoted, because I am a white male even though I never miss a day, am never late and do more for the company then any other employee and do I get rewarded? no the minority does or the female, because of equality even though both people who got the promotions called out all the time were always late and did 1/4 of the work load I did. How is that fair? how is the progress? It makes me not want to be a man. First I get butchered at birth and have my sex organs sliced and now equality and feminism have screwed the white man’s future(well poor white men anyways). If you do not see how the United States is now and how it is worse to be a man then a women these days. We have lost our purpose to be a provider and so to speak leader of the pack, now women cry rape when there upset they slept with a douchbag, take our jobs and belittle us. We get married a women divorces us we loose the house, the kids and half of our paycheck for the rest of our lives. And how do you women have it bad now a days? Maybe men would treat women better if they treated us better? women hand us over to the doctor at birth to chop off our sexual organ then expect us to just be ok with it. What purpose does a man have if he is not a provider or a leader? You wonder why the homosexual and bachelor rate is skyrocketing in the united states?
Today’s men are just good in donating sperm and leave women to their own devices to teach the child about life,take care of it, have to be a man and a woman. Do men think women enjoy leaving their babies with stranger while making dow. Because men are not men anymore not taking responsibility,taking the easy way out, abuse women and let the porn industry influence their behavior thats why the world is like this. THEY USE THEIR POWER TO HURT WOMEN INSTEAD OF PROTECTING THEM. WHY DO WE SEE WOMEN FIGHTING AND STANDING UP FOR WOMEN – THE WEAK HAVE TO PROTECT THE WEAK WHILE MEN ARE ROTTING IN PRISON,PLAYING VIDEO GAMES OR HANG OUT AT STRIP CLUBS AND GOD KNOWS WHAT OTHER FILTHY MANHOLES.
SCREW THE SHIT ABOUT WOMEN ARE MORE AMBITIOUS, WE HAVE TO CAUSE OUR MOTHERS WE DESERTED AND HAD TO FIGHT THEIR OWN BATTLES WHERE MEN RUN TO YOUNGER WOMEN, ASIAN GIRLS OR THE NEXT BEST THING TO BOOST THEIR MANLY EGO.
