The Miami Heat Won’t Win The NBA Finals Because They Don’t Have A Closer

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are a cut above the entire NBA for 47 minutes. Unfortunately, NBA games are 48 minutes and the Miami Heat have had a hell of a time trying to finish off opponents. Losers of four in a row, the Heat have stumbled closing opponents out and Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls was once again evidence why they are a minute away from greatness.

In a very similar fashion to how things played out earlier in the week against the Orlando Magic, the Heat had no idea how to close the show late in the game. Once again, the Heat gave up a double-digit lead. They again had a chance to win the game but nobody knew what to do in the final minute as both LeBron and Wade missed potential game-winners. These were the 12th and 13th consecutive shots the Heat have missed with a chance to tie or take the lead in the final minute. Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said it all without even mentioning a Heat player.

“We have guys who can close,” he said. And it’s really that simple.

The Heat are in dire need of a closer. They need a player with ice in his veins that will take that game winning shot and never think twice about it. This is why players like Kobe Bryant win championships. They have no fear putting a dagger through your heart in the final minutes. LeBron constantly looks like he doesn’t want to do it and Wade has something going on (injuries?) that have had him playing totally different basketball over the past couple of weeks. If LeBron or Wade are unable to close, they need a Robert Horry/Derek Fisher type of player that will launch that game winner without a second thought. Chris Bosh has drifted into a glorified third stooge who is having more Curly moments than anything else.

Simply put, the Heat is missing the clutch factor. In the NFL, teams have that kicker who can close the show. In the MLB, teams have that bat you can call upon at anytime and know he’s a lethal weapon. In golf, you have to have a guy who can sink putts from across the rolling green when the going gets tough. The Heat just don’t have it. They look awesome on your fantasy basketball roster but that’s where the buck stops.

The Heat just aren’t ready right now. They don’t really want it. They say they do. Their emotions make you think they want to win. But this is a team whose maturity level says otherwise.
