When we booked Power 105‘s “Breakfast Club” morning show hosts for a photo shoot, we had a meeting to brainstorm theme ideas. We knew we had to up the ante for this crew. Andrew Fennell, one of our talented photographers, had the bright idea of going with the 80s The Breakfast Club film theme. But could this “Breakfast Club” live up to The Breakfast Club?

The answer is yes. Charlamagne, with his controversial humor, would be the perfect John Bender. It seemed only natural to cast Angela Yee as Allison Reynolds with her dark shoulder-length hair and cute devil-may-care attitude. DJ Envy, with his good looks, charm and fun loving personality fit Andrew Clark‘s character quite nicely.

The whole styling experience was like putting together pieces of one big 80s puzzle. To replicate the notable outfits from the film, we used modern, updated pieces from DrJays.com and DJPremium.com, including CAVI, Artful Dodger, Buffalo Jeans, Creative Recreation, Da Bears, Cheap Monday, Nike, Mitchell & Ness, Apple Bottoms, L.A.M.B. and COOGI. To complete the looks, accessories were pulled from stores on NYC’s famous St. Mark’s Place, like Charlamagne’s fingerless black leather gloves and red scarf and Angela’s scarf and tube socks.

All three hosts were such great sports and a complete blast to work with. I don’t know how they had so much energy that morning, being that they had already been on the radio from 6am–10am before the shoot, but we couldn’t have asked for better models.

(Shout out to Boss Lady for bringing this shoot to the table, as well as our managing editor, Carla Shackleford, who found the perfect venue for the shoot—the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe in SoHo. Andrew Fennell took the awesome photos while Jenny Wu captured some hilarious behind-the-scenes video footage. Marlene Estevez was the makeup artist behind Angela’s sultry look, while hairstylist Rodnei Ferby provided her soft curls. I provided the wardrobe, and the shoot wouldn’t have run so smooth if we didn’t have our Anthony Reynolds assisting with anything and everything that day.)
