In Texas, You Can Eat A Fat Ho For Lunch
Down in Waco, Texas you can, courtesy of Fat Ho Burger, the latest local burger joint. Feel free to order that Fat Ho with a side of tater tots with extra ketchup.
Think the name is the brainchild of some joke-seeking man? Think again. Fat Ho Burger (name and all) is the creation of Lakita Evans, the restaurant’s owner. According to Evans, “It’s not calling people a ho. It’s just like they say, ‘Oooh that ho is big,’ or, ‘That ho is tight!’”
For the industrious 23-year-old restaurateur, the name is meant to make people take a second look, think twice and chill. “Look what’s going on in Japan. It’s like clear this world is not gonna get any better. Why cry and be depressed? The economy is bad. Somebody gotta keep a sense of humor around here,” says Evans.
The burger joint makes every effort to embody the theme—the menu offers both the “Sloppy Ho Brisket” or the “Supa Dupa Fly Ho with Chz” should you want to change it up.
Feeling a little dirty after chowing a ho at the absurdly named greasy spoon? No worries—right next door is the Gospel Café, a volunteer-run religious café and bookstore.
“Would’ve been nice to think a little more sensitively,” says Pastor Marsha Martie.
