Who Is Skylar Diggins?
It all started with a tweet. On Sunday evening, Lil Wayne sent cyber love to his play “wife” Skylar Diggins, a member of Notre Dame’s “Fighting Irish” women’s basketball team currently competing in the NCAA tournament.
Skylar (Twitter handle: @skydigg4) instantly became an overnight sensation on the social networking site; she currently has over 48,000 followers and has even been a trending topic. While she had a strong presence prior to this week’s bump, there’s no doubt that a shout-out from Wayne (not to mention making the Final Four) has brought the sophomore guard a whole new legion of fans.
“He [Wayne] tweeted me and I was like, wow. He didn’t just say Skylar Diggins, he said the Fighting Irish and that’s huge,” she said.
Thanks to her rising fame, pundits are saying Skylar could be just the thing women’s basketball needs to ramp up attention. According to Yahoo Sports, “the Notre Dame sophomore’s smooth playmaking skills, Madison Avenue smile and effortless charisma give her more crossover appeal than any other women’s college basketball player.” Diggins currently has her own blog on ESPN.com and Chris Brown also shouted her out, telling her “congrats beautiful.”
Skylar and Notre Dame face Texas A&M in the national championship game tonight at 8:30 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indiana.
