Say Goodbye To The Flip Cam
So long, Flip Cam.
According to Mashable, Cisco announced today it’s shutting down the popular Flip Cam video device. Realigning its consumer businesses to “support four of its five key company priorities,” Cisco says it will “close down the Flip business and support current FlipShare customers and partners with a transition plan.”
Described as a product that disrupted markets before moving aside for a true successor, the Flip definitely lost its allure once smartphones began having high-quality video capabilities with in-built data connections to upload footage directly to the internet.
My Flip Cam filmed impromptu interviews (such as this one I did with DJ Don Cannon) with decent quality, but things definitely got hazy when it was used during nighttime events and performances. And while you could custom design your device, etc, it also never made sense carrying the Flip plus a digital camera that had video features. Fun while it lasted!
