Michael Vick To Grace The Cover Of Madden ’12?

As it turns out, the answer to the question in the title depends on you. As we’re just getting over our March Madness brackets and have now turned to our NBA Playoff brackets, it turns out that game publisher/developer EA Sports has a bracket of its own. Featuring four rounds and 32 NFL players, the voting for the next face to cover this year’s edition of the hugely popular sports franchise—Madden ’12—has come down to the last two. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis.

In order to make their way to the final vote, Vick had to beat Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson 59 percent to 41 percent. Hillis handily defeated Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers 61 percent to 39 percent (even after that whole “Green and Yellow” thing took off).

Hillis seems to have a great deal of momentum, having pulled off such an upset. He was a #10 seed when voting first began, but has made it to the finals. Vick was a #3 seed. Can Hillis beat Michael Vick?

The answer is maybe. Vick, of course, is an extremely controversial and polarizing figure. Because many parents buy video games for their children, we might hear a lot of public outcry from them about Vick being a “bad role model” or the cover “glorifying criminal behavior.”

The fact of the matter is, Vick was convicted of a crime (truthfully, it was mainly for bankrolling and supporting others who chose to engage in illegal activity). He served his time, paid his debt to society and should be left alone. Furthermore, he had a whirlwind season coming back from his past troubles (and a malignant first season back) to lead the Eagles to the postseason while putting up incredible numbers for most of the journey. If he gets the cover, he deserves it. Period. Let Vick live and let the gamers game on.

Fans can place their votes until April 27. That same day, the results will be announced live on ESPN2′s SportsNation, which airs weekdays at 4 pm EST.
