Lady Gaga Wasn’t Born This Way: Check Out Her Glam Squad

That platinum blond hair, dramatic makeup and unpredictable wardrobe didn’t just grow on Lady Gaga overnight. This star has a team and we’re highlighting the key members of Gaga’s glam squad—from her fashion stylist, hair colorist and designers who keep her laced in show-stopping gear, to the photographer who collaborated on her new Born This Way album cover art and more.

After Gaga released the much anticipated album cover art for Born This Way, we had to know who shot it. Based in London, Nick Knight is a world renowned photographer whose long list of clients include Alexander McQueen and Yohji Yamamoto. He also photographed Lady Gaga for her much talked about Vogue Homme and Vanity Fair spreads.

Nicola Formichetti is the man behind many of the jaw-dropping ensembles Lady Gaga is known for.  Having styled Gaga for too many red carpet appearances and performances to name, he is also the man behind her looks in the “Telephone” music video, as well as her spread in Vanity Fair. Nicola has worked with Scarlett Johansson, Maxwell, and brands like Uniqlo. When it comes to designers who have collaborated with Gaga on pieces, the long list includes Jean Paul Gaultier, Armani, jewelry designer Alexis Bittar and, of course, Thierry Mugler—to whom Nicola was appointed as Creative Director last year.

As stated on Billy B”s Web site, he is “one of the most successful and sought after makeup artists in the world.” That, along the fact he can create those horns Lady Gaga has been wearing on her forehead as of late? Enough said. Billy worked on Gaga’s face for her I.D. magazine shoot, her Supreme campaign with Terry Richardson and much more. Funny enough, Gaga told NYMag.com that her beauty routine consists of  sleeping in makeup seven days a week…which she thinks she can get away with because of her “good genes.”

While many of Gaga’s extravagant wigs are made by famed hairstylist Charlie Le Mindu, her real hair is a work in progress with colorist Aura Friedman. The Senior Hair Colorist and Educator at the Bumble and bumble salons in New York City explains the work that goes into Gaga’s locks to Stylist.com: “We have to do a double process to make Gaga’s hair the right shade, which means removing her natural color with cream bleach and then applying a high-gloss dye that actually contains pearly pink, sparkling tones.” Gaga has to go through this every three weeks! The star has admitted she often has to get “chemical haircuts” because her hair is now falling out from all the processing.

Let’s see what Lady Gaga’s dream team comes up with next!
