Osama Bin Laden, leader of terrorist group Al Qaeda who claimed responsibility for the 9/11 attacks in 2001 has been killed in Pakistan.
According to MSNBC, Bin Laden was killed by “U.S. personnel” at a mansion in Pakistan and the U.S. is in possession of his body. DNA testing was used to further confirm his identity.
U.S. armed forces have been hunting for Bin Laden since 2001 when $25 million bounty was offered for his capture—dead or alive. According to reporter Richard Engel, with uprising across the Middle East, “this ends a chapter in the global war on terrorism” and could mark the beginning of ”Arab democracy.”
President Barack Obama is scheduled to make an announcement later this evening.
