Does Dr. Dre and Eminem’s New Song, “Die Hard,” Prove Detox Is Actually On The Way?

We finally found Osama Bin Laden. Now, where can we find Detox?

That’s what millions of hip-hop fans are thinking right now as we prepare to enter the summer season and still don’t have a definite release date for Dr. Dre‘s loooooong-awaited third album. Though he released “I Need A Doctor,” featuring Eminem, a couple of months ago and has gotten a pretty decent response to the song and the accompanying video for it, it still doesn’t sound like Detox is any closer to hitting a store shelf near you. Which, admittedly, doesn’t surprise us but does have us a little worried.

Fear not, though, Dre loyalists: It appears we could be coming closer to the eventual release of the album. That’s because on Friday, Dre and Eminem will premiere their new track, “Die Hard,” on HBO’s boxing show, Fight Camp 360: Pacquiao/Mosley. And while it apparently won’t be an official single from Detox, it does prove that there are at least songs from the album completed and ready to share with the world, which moves us one step closer to the album actually seeing the light of day.

We’re also pretty confident in the fact that Detox is coming soon, because it appears that Eminem is moving onto other projects at the moment. On Monday night, he announced that he will be dropping a new EP called Hell: The Sequel alongside fellow Detroit rapper Royce Da 5’9″. And while it’s certainly not ludicrous to think that Em could be working on Hell and Detox at the same time, we doubt Dre would let him go off and work on other projects if Detox was in dire need of additional help like some fans seem to think it is. He’d want him nearby to help him put the finishing touches on the album.

But if we’ve learned anything throughout this entire waiting period, it’s that Dre isn’t going to drop Detox until it’s ready. If that means waiting another ten years to do it, then so be it. If that means scrapping everything he’s done so far and starting over, then so be it. If that means making fans wait for him, then so be it. If that means…well, you get it. But the fact that he’s got a song in the can that’s going to premiere on an HBO show and that it’s being advertised as a reason to watch the show tells us that we have to believe that Detox is on the way sometime soon. Hey, we can hope, right?

Then again, until a few days ago, catching Bin Laden seemed like a pipe dream, too. And look how that turned out. Where can we find Detox, Dre? Let’s hope this is a sign that you’re starting to show us the way.

I think Detox could really be dropped since Die Hard isn’t a single. It means Dre isnt waiting for more approval from fans. So hopefully he wont wait much longer and he really needs to drop it before Hell: The Sequel or the Slaughterhouse album. It wobt ever be dropped if it cant beat those.
