Makeover Monday Winner: Shante Montague

Do you need help with your everyday wear, whether it’s your business casual dress code at work, or clothing for those summer nights out and about?
Today marks the launch of a new feature for DrJays.com Live titled “Makeover Mondays.” We will pick one winner each month to get a style makeover by yours truly, where I provide the winner (and you, dear reader) with a guide for dressing for your body and lifestyle!
For our first edition, we have Brooklyn’s own Shante Montague, a woman who finds walking in heels foreign. This 32-year-old single mother of four (including 18-month old twins) said she “needed this,” and I listened. She says her main fashion issue is picking clothing that fits her body. Shante told me her problem areas are her tummy and arms, so I then built two outfits, using pieces from DrJays.com, to help camouflage the tummy and slim the arms.
Check out her before and and after images below, and some of the tips I recommend for upping the style quotient. You’ll also find links to all the after products so that you can get the look, too:
BEFORE:

AFTER – LOOK #1: CASUALLY SEXY

As I advised Shante while I dressed her in this outfit, always pick jeans that fit your waist and legs right—avoid wearing low waist jeans if you want to avoid the “muffin top” look. Don’t let them pinch you around the waist, they should fit and rest comfortably at your natural waist. Shante has great legs, so these Levi’s skinny jeans fit her well, offering length and accentuating the positive. Since one of Shante’s “problem areas” is her tummy, I picked a nice structured dark jacket by Yoki for a flattering edgy look. The Baby Phat heels are clog-inspired and completely on trend this season.
AFTER – LOOK #2: A NIGHT OUT WITH THE GIRLS

I wanted to show Shante how to dress if she ever gets a break from her adorable kids and finds time to kick it with her friends. I went for a colorful dress by Sean John that highlights all the right places—cleavage, legs and lower arms. Shante is aiming to slim down her upper arms, but until then I cautioned her to stay away from super clingy fabrics. This means opting for fabrics with less stretch in favor of those with more structure, or fabrics with good drape. This dress slims the tummy and flatters the chest. The Breckelle’s booties and jewelry add just the right element of fun to this pretty look.
