What do we know about Mr. Nick Cannon? We know that he’s married to Mariah Carey. We know that he and the pop singer diva just had healthy little twins. We also know that he used to do a wildly popular TV show entitled Wildin’ Out (which he should bring back ASAP). However, we seem to forget that the guy who puts the Nick in Nickelodeon had a life before his marriage, and a career which consisted of acting and stand-up comedy. Yes, I said stand-up comedy. Nick was especially successful in this regard as a teenager.

“People forget that I started out doing stand-up. I’m actually going back to my roots. I’m a comic at heart.”

After plenty of years of hiatus, Nick has returned to the stage to tape a Showtime comedy special apparently HBO had better things to do entitled Mr. Showbiz.

In the special, Mr. Cannon or is it Carey? spends the most time clowning himself, his career mishaps, and the fact that Mariah wears the pants in the relationship (NEWS FLASH!).

It seems that Cannon likens his wife to a pimp and uses a high-pitched pimp voice to impersonate her at times when she puts him in his place, which is said to be one of the highlights of  the show. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, he also talks about the so-called “beef” he was involved in with Eminem. Check out these trailers to Mr. Showbiz, which was shot last month in the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas and debuted on Showtime Saturday night.

Notwithstanding his brief Denzel Washington impersonation, Nick’s timing is a bit off in this one. The jokes themselves seem to have slight potential. Maybe a little more time in the clubs working on his act would help, or maybe he should stick to playing second fiddle to one of the baddest chicks in the game.
