It seems that young J. Cole caught the attention of someone well informed at the Bristol, Connecticut headquarters of ESPN. Cole was invited to the ESPN campus to rework and revamp the iconic “Baseball Tonight” theme song. The theme accompanies the most recognizable baseball program ESPN has to offer, and the foray into mainstream television is a definite step in the right direction for Hollywood Cole. It’s rare anyone in hip-hop, let alone an up-and-coming emcee and producer get the opportunity to rework such an established piece of music no matter how casual it may seem. It bears notice that J. Cole was selected not for his rhyme skills, which are prevalent, but for his chops as a producer.Cole gives a preview of what we can expect from the new theme song and, as you may have surmised, it’s heavy hitting. While the hosts of the storied program may not be familiar with Hollywood Cole, they will soon be introduced to his music which is sure to be ripped and freestyled over for months to come. Check out a preview of the track below.
