Hollywood Speaks Up Against Kim Kardashian
The recent spike in backlash against Kim Kardashian from notable female celebs seems to be gaining momentum.
Veteran actor Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) had the following to say when recently interviewed by New York magazine (via Access Hollywood):
“Who the hell is Kim Kardashian?” Edie answered when asked if she watches reality television. “Who are these people and why are they famous and why are they advertising things and being asked their opinions about things? I just don’t understand what these people did to be in a position of having everyone ask their opinions about stuff.
“If there’s something about her personality or something that she’s accomplished or her philosophy on something—but beyond that I don’t understand what’s happening,” she added. “It’s actually frightening.”
Edie’s comments come on the heels of Reese Witherspoon‘s didactic speech at last week’s MTV Movie Awards where she didn’t name names, but strongly went in on the phenomena of Kim and her ilk.
“When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed, you hid it under your bed,” Reese said, half-jokingly. “I know it’s cool to be bad; I get it. But it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show.”
Dania Ramirez, who worked with Edie on The Sopranos, shared the link to Edie’s comments via her own Twitter account with a follow-up message of support:
For her part, Kim once told Allure magazine, “I think I’ve done a good job of replacing negative things with positive things.”
