Are There Any Redeeming Qualities In VH1′s Basketball Wives?
Another season of VH1′s Basketball NonWives and another season of drama. It’s pretty much what you expect of this show. They gossip, they fight, they fuss and they just seem miserable. Yet, they keep coming back to do it again and again. Those of us that watch it, view the show like we would a car accident—nobody is ever happy to see it, but we can’t keep our eyes off of it. This season is no different. The car accident is much bigger and in super slow motion (where everything looks worse).
On this past Sunday’s episode, good ol’ Royce and Evelyn had it out to the point where the two ladies were hurling glass at one another in a public place. As if the dirty laundry hadn’t been aired out enough, now patrons of what we believe to be a high-end restaurant got to see these women act in ways that would make the most ignorant reality star blush.
All this drama makes you wonder what the hell are the redeeming qualities of this show? All they do is fight and gossip. Very rarely do you see anything good on the show. Jennifer is going through a divorce, Royce is out of the circle, Suzie is lame, Evelyn is trying to find love with Chad Ochocinco while Shaunie makes the show happen. Why do this? It certainly doesn’t portray any basketball wives in a positive light. Taking it a step further, it doesn’t enhance the image of women. Whether it be clever editing or the real deal, the show is rather embarrassing if you are indeed a wife of a basketball player who doesn’t share these ladies’ experiences.
And while Evelyn throws around the “non-factor” word so freely, what would most of these girls be doing had it not been for their rich ex-husbands or former boyfriends? Oh yeah, nothing. This show is all about taking advantage of the situation. It doesn’t portray the life of a true basketball wife. Rather, it shows you how a bunch of spoiled 30-somethings carry themselves when riding the coattails of their famous ex-something or others.
Well, at least they have more fight in them than LeBron James in the fourth quarter.

I guess the small check they get is enough for them to continue publicly embarrassing themselves. They all look like buffoons. I have to say I have particular distaste for Evelyn. We all sat and watched cry over the groupies that stalked her man, we all understood her rage against those B—hes. Just to find out she’s one of those b—ches. She is a truly horrible person. From her lying to Royce about attending the charity benefit (last season) to taking the fact she messed around with a man she knew was with someone and trying to make a buck off it, I can find Nothing to like about this woman. She is a bully and somewhat stupid. Jennifer is not capable of forming an independent opinion, and it is painful to watch, when she try’s (I think she says “like” about 12 times in 2 sentences.) Royce is childish but she is one of the more truthful ones on the show. I can’t understand why there is so much commentary about her saying this and that or lying? Either they are cutting out a lot of show or these women are CRAZY! I think Royce needs to let go of the check and settle into her privet life in that big ol house of hers. These women are in league of Mean that she really can’t hang with. Tammy is crazy but she is honest and she does not change up. She is what she is; all day and all night. Suzie is pathetic! Why would she ever want to be friends with a person like Evelyn? WHY WHY??? She looks like a fool with no back bone. Meeka is just dumb. How do you talk all that sh—t then deny it, and you know the camera’s rolling? “DUMB!” And the Queen Bee Shaunie is a strait-up PIMP! You would think she would be the voice of reason. Or maybe try to correct some of this adolescent behavior. But no she is a full participant in to whole carnival. I mean really? No one but Tammy thought Evelyn’s tee shirt idea was in poor taste?? REALLY? You would think Shaunie would help Evelyn to be more conscious about the message on and around that shirt. Nope she co-singed and went on. I guess Sh—t shows make money. P.I.M.P.!
I have to be honest I’ve watched every season thus far. But I think this may be my last few episodes. This show is going in a direction I can’t defend watching anymore. It is true; this show is about gossip and fights. I might as well be watching the Bad Girls Club. I was originally excited about watching these stories of women that had to endure the stress of being the wife of an NBA player. But it never really got to that. Instead this show has exposed us to how horrible these girlfriends, babies mama’s and wives are and why they are without the men that gave them this opportunity to be on a show titled “Basketball Wives”.
To answer your question “are there any redeeming qualities in VH1’s Basketball Wives? NO..
Throw a drink at Tami (((Evelyn))) see how that works for you…lol…lol
Evelyn is a bully and a coward…She would never confront Tami the way she did Royce or simple minded Susie. I’m glad Royce didn’t back down from her. Royce was so right..Evelyn is a “hoe”.
I hope I can feel sorry for her, when Chad dumps her.
The show is truly profiting off of negative experiences and keeping the show on that track is humiliating to life on the whole if negativity is all to be seen. The producers are lining their pockets at the unfortunate situations of the people in this show, while the wives are recieving really little take home pay, in regards to what the producers are on the whole, while the producers are not the ones who are airing their unfortunate situations to the US of A. Contrary to popular opinion Evelyn is not the star of this show and neither is Shaunie. I think the ones who are dealing with the aftermath of what this show does to their life, and keep that in mind as they are filming, while trying to keep it someone positive, or on a positive deeper level that what you see,are the true stars of the show, would be Tami and Royce at this time. Tami was set up and she may not have handled it appropriately, but she did have something to stand up for–her children. They are not non factors, they are THE IN factor. They were born IN side of their parents union of marriage. That speaks volume for them and their parents even is the marriage did not last. Evelyn is part of why it did not. evelyn is seeing doctors about twins when she is not even married yet. Some people do anything to stay relevant and do not understand what relevant is in the first place.
Shaunie I do not understand why she is there in the first place since she has nothing to air, add, or decide since she can’t tell people what to do or say or how to act on the show as she has said in interviews more of less. Then what do they need her for? For Evelyn and Jennifer to stay on the show? I think they have both run their course. Their plots are tooooo shallow and does not come with any deep thought. Their lives are not that interesting as well.
Tami and Royce on the other hands plots are more real, and thought provoking. There is more than meets the eye so to speak.
Susie is a nice Evelyn, no real friend to anyone.
Meeka has no personality and wants to belong somewhere instead of defining who she is. Both of which Tami and Royce have succeeded at without being told that they need to.
Shaunie is just there for a buck and is not invested in how her show appears to women on the whole. She is an imposter to her own show and she knocks off the rhythm of the messy chaotic storyline of the episodes. Her appearances on the show is like cut and paste to an article. It does not work, does not belong, and is never added appropriately to the entire article. She is not there regularly enough to just be able to blow in when she wants. It disrupts the storyline. Either get in the show and stay in or stay out. We do not need to see her being that she cannot add anything of her life with her basketball husband. So why is she there, voice of reason should be within each actress, not her, ie-Shaunie, since she can’t tell the actresses what to do or how to act. Right Shun. Keep it Moving
Tami and Royce are the unsung stars in this show. They have delivered the more interesting storylines on and off of the set. Even Ashley has brought a more interesting storyline than the boring duo of Evelyn and Jennifer. Jennifer to cute to be an actress. She should go sell fitness stuff. It does not seem to be her forte this acting thing. She is too one D. Always the same old same ole with her. You can only deal with divorce for so long on television. No one wants to hear about it every episode, get another plot to your life, and we do not want to be solicited too ither.
Just wondering..Are any of these women college educated? It is very disappointing to see grown women act this way. Very Middle schoolish. Evelyn, I feel sorry for. Something must of happened to her in her childhood. She is unmistakenly superficial. Highly insecure. What would happen to her if Jennifer was not there? Royce and Tami are more realistic. Even Shaunie is a let down as far as maturity is concerned. If anybody treated her daughters the way she treats other in that click, I would assume she would be upset. What is it with this ‘circle’ thing anyway? Who cares? Maybe they have to have a ‘click’ because they would not fit in anywhere else. Especially, Evelyn, who cannot seem to express her thoughts without cursing like a demented sailor. No way would anyone in the general public tolerate her antics. Throw a drink on someone who is not in your ‘circle’ like you did at Royce. Royce should have taken out an assualt charge on her. Jail ..too good for her. These women are setting a terrible example for young women everywhere. Shaunie..you should be ashamed and embarrassed. Examples you would want your daughters to follow? Evelyn, trying to have babies for a man that may not marry you like the last father of your child. Is it for the money (securing your future). Babies for money. And you are too old to be in that mind set. I wonder what Ocohos’ mother thinks of you. Like her opinion counted when he was on that other show trying to find a woman. He’s young, famous, rich and having fun. You are not.
I’m wondering if this show is this all acting? There have got to be Basketball Wives who are have husbands they love, believe in helping others, educated, respectful and feel blessed to be in the positions they have been given. Role Models.
