Alyssa Campanella Crowned Miss USA 2011
Graceful redhead Alyssa Campanella (a.k.a. Miss California) won the Miss USA pageant last night, taking over the crown from Lebanese-American beauty Rima Fakih. Campanella will now represent the country in the Miss Universe contest this year.
The self-described “huge history geek” (originally from New Jersey) gave an interesting answer when asked by the Real Housewives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo about marijuana legalization.
“Well, I understand why that question would be asked, especially with today’s economy, but I also understand that medical marijuana is very important to help those who need it medically,”Campanella said. “I’m not sure if it should be legalized, if it would really affect, with the drug war. I mean, it’s abused today, unfortunately, so that’s the only reason why I would kind of be a little bit against it, but medically it’s OK.”
According to her official website, Campanella began modeling at age 16, graduated from high school a year early and received a scholarship to the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. She’s an avid Twitterer and like many of us, is reportedly addicted to playing Angry Birds.
The Miss Universe pageant is scheduled for September 12 from Sao Paolo, Brazil.
