You Can’t Escape Bruno Mars, Even If You Try
It’s hard to escape Bruno Mars nowadays. The pop sensation recently scored the longest-reigning debut single in Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart’s 50-year history with “Just The Way You Are.” The Hawaii-born crooner’s (he’s half Filipino, half Puerto Rican) now platinum album Doo-Wops & Hooligans gained him seven Grammy nominations, making him an instant international success. And even cocaine possession charges haven’t been able to stop the 25-year-old powerhouse.
Here’s a rundown of Bruno’s media escapades over just this past month:
TODAY show: Yesterday was Mars’s day to shine for TODAY‘s Summer Concert Series. During a rain-soaked performance, he wowed thousands of fans (co-host Ann Curry deemed it the “biggest crowd of the year”) with hits like “The Lazy Song” and “Runaway Baby.” He later told co-host Matt Lauer, “They’re making signs for me. I’m just happy I’m here. I really got lucky.”
Fast Company magazine: Mars is listed in the magazine’s current issue as one of “The 100 Most Creative People In Business” this year. Featured alongside Al-Jazeera’s Wadah Khanfar, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, Oprah Winfrey and Conan O’Brien, Bruno ranks at a respectable number 48. His secret to success? “My writing style is simple, straight to the point and genuine—like that song ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’.”
L’UOMO VOGUE magazine: Mr. “Grenade” stars in the Italian publication’s July/August issue, looking pensive in designer suits and sweaters, smoking cigarettes and getting his GQ-smooth on.
iTunes Festival: Bruno was announced as a headliner for the festival next month (at the Roadhouse bar in Covent Garden on July 1-31) in London alongside Adele and Linkin Park. Of course, if you can’t make it to England for the show there’s an app for you to stream it live.
BET Awards: Bruno’s up for Best Male R&B Artist at this year’s award show, which airs tomorrow at 8pm ET.
