Your Daily Music Fix With DJ P-Money
Daily Music Fix time! New York legends Pete Rock and Smif N Wessun peacefully celebrated their Monumental LP release this week but had their event shut down and disrupted in a very foul way by the powers that be. NYPD needs to chill. In support of positivity in hip-hop, we’ll kick off with the official video for their single “That’s Hard” featuring Sean Price and Styles P. Arriving a little over five years after the album was released, comes this fan made video for J Dilla‘s “Last Donut Of the Night.” This is the winning entry from Stones Throw Records international video contest and of course a great piece of music from the late great Dilla. J. Cole just dropped “Work Out” and while I’m still not totally onboard the Cole bandwagon, I like the way they flipped the “Kanye’s Workout Plan” vocoder for this one. When it comes to dance music I prefer the disco end of the spectrum and Fool’s Gold affiliate RogerSeventyTwo delivers one of the year’s best so far. It’s not much more than a vocal loop and bassline but I can hear this being spun in party sets around the world. And if I may be so bold, I’m gonna include one of my own pieces in the Top 5 this week. A little track I put together on Sunday night called “Heaven.” You can find more of my beats on soundcloud.com/p_money, add me!
