It wasn’t that long ago that Nicki Minaj cooed, “You see right through me. How do you do that sh!t?” Perhaps she should have been warned that the year of sheer was upon us.

No longer taboo, designers Roberto Cavalli, Zac Posen, Alberta Ferretti, Rochas, 3.1. Phillip Lim, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dennis Basso, Nina Ricci and Alexander Wang to name a few left nothing to the imagination indulging in provocative and transparent fabrics like lace, mesh, organza, tulle and chiffon to create sheer necklines, cutouts, sleeves and skirts.

Not afraid to hit the streets in their birthday suit, A-listers like Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, Gwen Stefani, Ciara, Jennifer Lopez and even ultra conservative Ivanka Trump dared to bare their bras, underwear or a healthy dose of skin in the trendy fabric.

But beware. Although sheer fabrics can be provocative, sexy, light, airy and dramatic, they can also cause a catastrophe if not rocked properly. Just ask Khloe Kardashian who flashed her nipple last June in a sheer blouse during a T.V. interview on Fox & Friends. Stay on the side of good taste and make sure your undergarments provide maximum coverage or you’ll be flirting with indecent exposure.
