Rihanna, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry: Who Has The Hottest Summer Tour Fashion?
Just like LFO (don’t act like you don’t remember the pop singing trio, Lyte Funky Ones) we like when girls stop by in the summer, in the summer and maybe sing a song or two.
This summer’s concert schedule had no shortage of loud reggae divas, pop and rap femme fatales, country gals not afraid to speak now and candy-coated California dreamers. Rihanna, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry hit the road this summer traveling around the globe to prove all the world is their stage. While every single lady sang their heart out in a race to reign supreme, their fashions, though fierce and flawless, definitely ran the gamut.
Rihanna’s racy “Loud” tour style was anything but quiet. The brainchild of Mel Ottenberg, the stylist skipped using big name designers and instead went edgier. The red-head rocked out in a colorful custom made bikini by Adam Selman and Tom Binns, a Yves St. Laurent men’s tuxedo and shirt customized to tear away, white hot Oscar de la Renta hooker booties, a dog-tag dress made by Jeremy Scott, a gorgeous canary yellow gown by Mel Ottenberg, Adam Selman denim hot pants and a gold corset dress by Jeremy Scott reminiscent of Marie Antoinette.
Britney and Nicki teamed up for the “Femme Fatale Tour.” While Nicki’s wardrobe was limited since she was only the opening act, she did manage to dazzle in a black unitard covered in white wires that lit up, patent leather neon yellow pumps and a short blonde wig. Spears was back to her “Hit Me Baby One More Time” shape and wanted everyone to know it. “Britney is a very sexy girl, so everything has to be sexy,” her stylist Zaldy Goco told Extra.
The singer stepped out in lots of fishnet and skin tight body suits covered in leather and lace and all types of bikini manifestations. There’s also a kimono, an outfit inspired by Marilyn Monroe and a snake-charmer get up. Spears, who closes the show wearing huge angel wings, goes through nine costumes in all.
Taylor admitted that Broadway inspired a lot of the costumes for her “Speak Now” tour. “The first time that I fell in love with performing is when I went to go see theater in my hometown in Pennsylvania,” Swift told Billboard. “I would see it done incredibly well—going to see Broadway plays of Wicked—things like that just really inspired me from an early age to love putting on a theatrical performance where there are storylines and characters, and you’re always seeing a scene change into another scene. I love telling a story in any way possible.” Swift felt the story was best told in a glittery gold dress, an understated blue halter, lots of ruffles, cowboy boots and a glamorous gown.
The sweetest of them all had to be Katy who went through a whopping 16 costume changes for her “California Dreams” show that simulates a tour of Candyland. Covered in cupcakes, candy canes and even wearing a Hershey’s Kisses-inspired bikini coated in shiny lame to mimic tin foil, Katy looked good enough to eat.
There’s only room for one diva on the throne. Who would you crown as the sista with the hottest summer tour style of 2011?
