Comic-Con Preview: Is Grave Encounters Just Another “Lost Footage” Horror Film?
Ever since it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, everyone has been talking about The Vicious Brothers’ upcoming movie Grave Encounters. Yes, it’s another one of those “lost footage” horror flicks similar to The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, but this one seems to be a little more spooky than its predecessors.
Grave Encounters doubles as the name of the reality show that happens to be shooting at a mental hospital. Led by Lance Preston, the film crew seek out creeps and scares in the hospital only to have the creeps and scares find them. As with all lost-footage films, the tapes are found some time later after whatever took place in the hospital has ended. And we’re left with “authentic” video of what went down.
It won’t be the blockbuster The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity were, but as someone who had a chance to preview the film before checking out the Grave Encounters panel at Comic-Con, I can say it is certainly worth checking out for a few scares. With over six million views on YouTube, it seems there is a pretty healthy buzz for the movie when it releases in August.
