Captain America! Top 5 Comic Books

So, I haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet but I sure hope it’s as good as something the Comic Books Cap has produced . Come to think of it, here’s five of my favorite Captain America comic books and why.
5. Captain America Comics #1

The very first appearance of the Captain, with his cheesy suit and heart shaped shield. Good stuff.
4. Amazing Spider-Man #537

So if you’re a fan of Cap, you know he’s known for his long-winded speeches. But this wasn’t just one of his run-of-the-mill speeches when he spoke to Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man #537, this was epic! What a bad ass speech—check it out:
“Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something is wrong is something right. This nation was founded no one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move. Your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world–’no, YOU move.’”
3. Captain America #298

There is no good guy without a bad guy and the Red Skull is one of the best (behind Dr. Doom and The Joker). This is a must read because I’ve found that the bad guys’ back stories are usually a lot more interesting than the good guys. Sorry Cap.
2. Captain America Vol. 3, #17

In this episode our hero loses all of his powers. Cap is reduced to running around in a five-size-too-big suit (because all his muscles are gone) and can barely lift his shield. But Cap being Cap, he fights the Red Skull anyway and hands him a major ass beating.
1. Captain America Vol. 5 #25

Of course number one has got to be the captain’s death. It was a fitting end to the Marvel Civil War series. He went out like a true hero—shoot on court room steps as the crowd jeers and insults him… -__-
