Is Justin Bieber Going To Make Instagram More Popular Than It Already Is?

As a general rule of thumb, if Justin Bieber is involved with something, invest in it. Not now, but right now. Which is why you’re crazy if you’re not running to Apple’s App Store right now to download Instagram—the photo-sharing app that allows you to alter the photos you take and add different effects to them.

As of last month, Instagram had a healthy five million users and was on the rise. But it wasn’t as popular as other social networking sites—or photo-sharing sites, for that matter—because it didn’t have the celebrity cache that many of them have. Enter the Biebs. Late last week, Bieber signed up for Instagram for the first time and sent out his first photo. And teenage girls everywhere flocked to the site once they found out he was a part of it.

Just a few hours after he put up his first photo, Bieber was putting a serious strain on Instagram’s servers with more than 50 new people signing up and following Bieber every minute. The San Francisco-based company went through some technical troubles on their end, but something tells us they didn’t mind much.

Why? Because Bieber is one of the celebrities who is helping define exactly what it takes for a social networking site to succeed. To date, he has amassed more than 11 million Twitter followers and he continues to add more everyday. So the thought is that he can do the same thing for Instagram. By posting photos on the photo-sharing app and tweeting them out to the world, he’ll continue to help spread the word about it and, little by little, Instagram will gain new followers—directly and indirectly because of Justin Bieber.

For the record, we’ve been riding for Instagram since before Biebs got involved. The app, which is super simple to use, is great for those people looking to add a little something extra to their photos and share them with the world. However, Biebs’ participation is good for anyone who’s a fan of Instagram because it means the company will continue to invest in putting out a quality product. Like Twitter, we expect Instagram to grow as a company moving forward and to build off their sudden popularity amongst tweens.

As we said at the beginning, now that Justin Bieber is involved, you should invest in Instagram if you haven’t already. It’s a quality app and it’s only going to get better now that one of the world’s biggest pop stars is posting pics to it. Just wait and see.
